Financial literacy and Investing by Brooke - April 2026 Scholarship Essay

A skill that I hope to master in the next couple of years is financial literacy and investing. This is important to me because it will help me build long term financial stability, and will help me to make better decisions for my financial future.
I plan to develop this skill by learning the basics of budgeting, saving, and investing through both my personal finance class that I am currently taking, as well as through my future financial classes. I also plan to expand my knowledge of finance through videos and classes online. I want to start small and start investing in things like index funds, in order to learn how to track how they perform. I also want to learn more and improve my knowledge and understanding in finance to grow my confidence in managing my money and making smart financial decisions. Having these skills early on is something very important to me and through these different methods I will be able to fully comprehend these necessities.
Another way I plan to improve is by setting personal financial goals, like saving a certain amount of money or building a small investment portfolio. This will keep me motivated and help me to easily measure my progress. I also want to learn from my mistakes along the way, since investing involves some risk and not every decision will be perfect.
