I am a graduate of the University of Chicago. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Physics with a specialization in Astrophysics. I have tutored middle school and high school aged students in math and science for over two years. Coming from such a technical background, I know that many students find these subjects intimidating, but I always personalize my approach so that they won't be quite so boring and formal. Math and science are less scary, and more fun, when we can relate them back to real world examples. I'm especially passionate about tutoring math subjects because I used to hate math, but then someone took the time to make sure I really understood everything, and it quickly became my favorite subject. I also focus on concepts and why we solve questions in a specific way, rather than memorizing the steps for a specific type of question. I have found that having a solid understanding of the concepts behind the question gives the student more confidence to solve a wide variety of problems. In my free time, if I'm not cooking, then I'm watching movies or catching up on the latest Netflix series.

I am a graduate of Texas A&M University; I received a Bachelor of Science in Biology along with being a minor in Spanish. I also studied at Plano ISD in high school. As Plano ISD is recognized for its academic achievements and competitiveness, I have always been positively challenged by my curriculum and by my peers to improve and to push myself to excel. From a young age, I have always been a part of the Gifted and Talented program. Trying to challenge myself and wanting to be different, I took a risk and joined the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, a program that was not as well recognized at the time and was extremely difficult. Joining the IB program was the best decision I have taken thus far. I gained knowledge from all around world- different insights, different histories, different philosophies, different literature, etc.At Texas A&M University, I had the proper study skills to excel and obtained the knowledge I wanted from my college education. At A&M, I was very involved with the pre-medical organizations and spend my time volunteering at nursing homes and at hospitals. I also have a interest for research and have done that extensively. What has kept me sane and focused throughout all of this is dance. I started dancing during elementary school and am now a part of Wreckin' Raas, a Texas A&M national dance team. Dance has always served as an outlet in which I can make the rules. Not only does it help me escape from the pressures of the academic world but also it allows me to convey my emotions in a healthy manner.During my high school years, I tutored through Plano East National Honors Society and in my college years, I worked as a Supplemental Instruction Leader in charge of a class of students. I have been tutoring students of all ages, which helped me discover that I want to help others realize their goal. I work n a broad variety of subjects including calculus, physics, SAT preparation, and more. My favorite subjects to tutor are math and science because I have the most experience in those subjects. My purpose is to not impart knowledge to others as a teacher but as a friend who has been through similar courses, knows all the tricks and traps, and can guide peers without the intimidation of a professor.

Teaching is not a one size fits all endeavor. The teacher must learn from the student their interests, skills and learning preferences. It is then up to the teacher to provide a learning environment unique to that student which will not only show the student how they best acquire new information but also show them how to take that new information and apply it to the one size fits all testing environments found in many schools and colleges. One cannot teach another unless she is willing to learn from her students.

I'm originally from San Diego, but I moved to Houston in 2007 to attend Rice University. I graduated from Rice in 2011 as a pre-med student with a degree in the environmental sciences and spent the last year working in Honduras at a hospital. In Honduras, I was social worker who organized activities for the children in the cancer ward. I returned to Houston at the end of June to work as a Laboratory Technician at Rice University. I recently applied to medical school for the Fall of 2013, but for the next year, I'd really like to start tutoring again! Why do I love tutoring? Because I've always enjoyed mentoring a student and sharing in his/her successes. While enrolled in high school and throughout the Summer after my first year of college, I mainly focused on tutoring for the SAT and ACT. I have a strong background in math and science, though I feel comfortable enough to tutor for any subject.
