Elementary Math Tutoring review by Rebecca in Seattle, WA
Today we finished the practice test. The problems covered more of the new content like volume, percentages of, etc. We went slower through a few, and practiced others that are similar. We continued to work on testing strategies, writing down his work, and making sure he uses units.

We spent most of this session reviewing the student's multiplication. We used flashcards and a "hot dot" program that her dad had gotten both her and her brother. She is able to work through them faster. We mostly focused on her 1's, 2's, 3's, 5's, 10's and 11's. She has also improved immensely with her 5's and 3's.

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Tara in Seattle, WA
In this lesson we practiced solving equations involving subtraction, multiplication, and division of decimals and whole numbers (two or three digits). The student initially said she didn't know how to solve the multiplication and division problems, but with guidance from me, she was able to do them all. We reviewed the rules for how to handle decimal points with all three operations (subtraction, multiplication, and division). We also looked at her new math workbooks and multiplication flashcards and discussed how she could use them to help her master basic math skills with a little daily practice.

We reviewed for her test tomorrow, focusing on elapsed time word problems. She felt weak in working backwards with time, but by the end of our tutoring session she felt much more confident and ready for her exam.

The student and I spent the hour practicing subtraction and multiplication facts. We looked at fact families, played various games using multiplication and subtraction, and did some skip counting. I gave the student another timed test with 20 subtraction problems. She got almost all of them correct (-1). Hopefully next time she will keep up the accuracy and do it much faster!

Elementary Math Tutoring review by Justyn in Seattle, WA
We started with the student's math homework which was two pages of multiplication. Specifically it focused on having the student write out his own word problems using multiplication sentences. After he completed that, we worked on a review sheet I created for him that encompassed all the subject matter we had done so far together (adding, subtracting, multiplying, multi step word problems, etc.). We also began doing multiplication problems with double digit numbers. We concluded by doing 10 minutes of 4th grade vocabulary flash cards. He was strong on his math review getting 4/5 correct with minimal assistance.
