Blank-page paralysis is real, and Aaron tackles it by teaching students to separate drafting from editing — getting ideas down first, then shaping them into something precise. His experience writing across disciplines, from lab reports in biochemistry to analytical essays in the humanities, means he can adapt his coaching to whatever genre a student is working in. He holds a 5.0 client rating.

As a Ph.D. student who writes extensively for academic journals and coursework, James treats writing as a craft built on revision, not inspiration. He walks through the full process — brainstorming a thesis, organizing evidence, finding a voice that fits the assignment — so students leave with a repeatable method, not just a finished paper.
I am currently studying chemical engineering at the University of Michigan. I have always helped out my fellow students with schoolwork, and I have tutored in the National Honor Society for three years. My tutoring strengths include my abilities to stay calm, be patient, and offer different perspectives on the learning process. I do not just help my students learn the material, but I also teach them how to learn it. I tutor math and test prep courses. Outside of school and tutoring, I play the piano. I have played classical piano for 13 years and jazz piano for 7.
I am my strongest and best self when helping others. As an enthusiastic, passionate, and dependable teacher, I am consistently working to share and engage with the material I love.
I am also a teaching assistant for one of the psychology professors, and I help students in introduction to psychology learn concepts and prep for exams.
I'm working towards a degree in computer science, but I've thought about switching that over to mathematics-well because I love math. Outside of school subjects; I play video games, do cross country, and like watching documentaries and superhero films.
I am an undergraduate student attending Grinnell College in Iowa to pursue a B.A. in Computer Science. I grew up in Minnesota, and now I am staying in Omaha. I like traveling, meeting new people, and learning everything that I can.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). On rainy weekends I enjoy tinkering with computers and old electronics, playing Pokemon, or picking at my guitar.
I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. My primary areas of tutoring are math and statistics coursework in addition to math sections on standardized tests such as the GRE and GMAT. I am very passionate about helping students feel more confident and excited about math. In my spare time, I enjoy running, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
I am a graduate of Wesleyan University, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology with High Honors. With eight years of experience working in education, I've tutored students in math, science, history, and English, as well as helped students prepare for standardized tests. I've guided adults towards passing the US Citizenship Exam and taught English in India, where I lived for six months. Whenever I work with a student I personalize the lessons to fit their particular learning style, since I know every student is unique and having the right fit can make all the difference in making learning fun and effective. My strengths are tutoring the social sciences and humanities, as well as making math and standardized tests approachable to students that normally don't like those subjects. In my spare time I like traveling, spending time in the outdoors (climbing & backpacking), meditation, and playing soccer. Next fall I will be beginning my PhD in Education at Harvard University.
I am a graduate of Washington University in St Louis, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in Humanities and Anthropology. Since graduation, I have worked as a tutor, teacher, and director of tutors at a charter public middle school in Boston. During this time I also received my Masters in Mild to Moderate Disabilities from Simmons College. I have worked extensively with students with a range of abilities, including students with specific learning disabilities, emotional impairments, dyslexia, and ADHD. My teaching experience has given me a deep understanding of the knowledge and habits essential to academic success and has given me the opportunity to hone a variety of strategies that ensure students at each level can achieve their academic goals. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite ones are Reading, Elementary/Middle School Math, History, and Test Prep. In my experience, tutoring is the most rewarding when a student has that "aha!" moment and achieves a new level of understanding and confidence in his/her abilities. I am a firm believer in the transformative power of education, and I see my role to be that of a facilitator and coach who is there to help the student reach his/her goals through individualized support and rigorous practice. In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, practicing my Spanish, and discovering new music. I am also an avid traveler and just got back from a 3 month trip to South America. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

Frequently Asked Questions
Your first session is about understanding your writing goals and current challenges. A tutor will review samples of your work, discuss what you're working on—whether that's essays, creative writing, or test prep—and identify specific areas to focus on, like organization, thesis development, or grammar. This helps create a personalized plan tailored to your needs.
Tutors work with you on the fundamentals of essay organization: crafting a strong thesis, building supporting arguments, and creating logical flow between paragraphs. Rather than just marking mistakes, they'll guide you through the writing process—from brainstorming and outlining to revision—so you develop skills you can apply to any essay assignment.
Yes—thesis development is one of the most common areas tutors focus on. They'll help you move beyond vague statements to arguments that are specific, debatable, and supported by evidence. Through practice and feedback on your own writing, you'll learn how to craft thesis statements that give your essays direction and purpose.
A tutor provides objective feedback that's hard to give yourself, helping you see structural issues, unclear arguments, and areas where your voice could be stronger. They'll teach you a revision strategy that goes beyond fixing typos—focusing on big-picture changes first, then sentence-level clarity—so you develop a process you can use independently on future assignments.
Absolutely. Tutors can teach you the mechanics of different citation styles and, more importantly, help you understand *why* citations matter for academic integrity. They'll review your citations in context of your actual essays, so you learn to apply formatting rules correctly rather than just memorizing rules.
Writer's block often stems from unclear thinking about your topic or fear of starting imperfectly. Tutors help by breaking the writing process into manageable steps—brainstorming, outlining, and drafting—rather than trying to write a perfect essay all at once. They can also teach you strategies like freewriting or talking through ideas to get past the initial hurdle.
Grammar is important, but great writing also requires clarity, voice, and persuasive power. Tutors help you develop your unique writing voice while maintaining appropriate tone for your audience. They'll guide you on when to follow grammar rules strictly and when you can bend them for effect—skills that make your writing more engaging and effective.
Yes. Tutors help you move beyond plot summary to deeper analysis—identifying themes, understanding author's purpose, and supporting interpretations with textual evidence. Strong reading comprehension and analytical skills are the foundation for strong essays, so tutors often work on both together to help you write more compelling literary analysis papers.
