While at Bryn Mawr, I spearheaded efforts to promote diverse student participation in the arts, such as with my efforts in student theatre and acapella. While I tutor a range of subjects, my passion lies in English and Japanese. I am a huge fan of literature and folklore. About 8 years ago, I received my alternative certification for grades 4-8 and have been teaching ever since. Currently, I am working towards a Masters degree in Educational Leadership so I can pursue my dream of becoming an administrator.For the past 7 years, I have been teaching 6th and 7th grade Science. I love teaching Science because it's so hands on. During this time I have helped numerous students with all different kinds of learning styles and abilities. I love making the kids feel comfortable with me. First, I strive to build a relationship with the student because that is very important. Building their confidence and making them believe in themselves is key to learning as well. I first started tutoring organic chemistry as an undergraduate, then I had microbiology during graduate school, and now I'm tutoring K-12. My heart has always been science but I enjoy lower levels maths such as basic math with Algebra as my stopping point. My background is in biochemistry and biomedical sciences. Chemistry is my favorite subject because it includes math but in reality anyone who studies chemistry or biology should have a good understanding of both to succeed. It is my experience, there is no one way to learn, everyone has their own style. As a tutor, I ask a lot of questions in the beginning so I can determine the learning style so I can alter my teachings. I will use every tool I have in my arsenal to ensure my students understand their material. I look forward to helping as many students as I can succeed in the math and science.
