Hello there!I am currently a seventh grade science teacher in Queens, I am a recent graduate of SUNY Oneonta in upstate New York with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education and Physics. I am very passionate about helping others learn and I really enjoy explaining difficult concepts to a variety of students in both group and on-on-one settings. I am willing to help with a variety of math and science related subjects to get you where you want to go with your education.

I love to help students pursue their unknown potentials! I believe that a strong education is vital for the future of our youth. Communicating effectively, verbally and in written form, increases confidence and a desire to succeed. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology at the University of Akron, Akron, Ohio. At the time, I pursued that degree because of my interest in observing and interacting with people in all cultures. I have traveled to several countries exploring cultures, including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Thailand, Great Britain, Spain, Italy and France. I have worked as a substitute teacher, a paraprofessional with Special Education students, and most recently as an ESL online teacher. I love interacting with youth. I am flexible, adaptable, and believe that learning can be fun. Over the years, I have accumulated quite a variety of teaching techniques and props to facilitate tutoring. Establishing a rapport with my students is important. This means that I am an active listener when I interact with my students. My students know that I care about them, their learning challenges, and their interests. My favorite subjects to tutor and teach are the language arts, including reading, writing, speaking and listening. In my spare time, I enjoy jigsaw puzzles, my pets (dog, parakeets), bird watching, Pilates, cooking/baking, reading and playing the piano.

I am earning dual Bachelors of Science from Duke University and Duke Kunshan University (located in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China) in Behavioral Science-- intended to graduate in 2023. As a former Varsity Tutors student myself, I can confidently say that our services not only allow students to be proud of what they can achieve (for myself it was an SAT score and college admissions essays) but also who they are. Tutoring had a huge impact on my confidence in the classroom and other academic settings (i.e. testing, presentations, etc.) My greatest wish is to pay it forward.I am a passionate learner of developmental and abnormal psychology, with aspirations to become a clinical child psychologist in the future. I have years of volunteer and work experience as a camp counselor, lifeguard, science fair leader, babysitter, tutor, seminar leader, and child caretaker. I have been a language student myself for the longest time and until my brain stops cooperating I'll learn as many languages as I can. Sharing learning tips and teaching what is actually useful in real life are my two main goals as a tutor. I know how daunting it can be to figure out an entire language alone and learning a foreign language is all about communicating and sharing.I think of students as worlds to discover. What I have to offer to them is my knowledge and passion for my language and in exchange I get the satisfaction of helping them pursue their passions and dreams as well as the chance to share a piece of home.I have a B.A. in translation studies from Universit degli Studi di Macerata, an MBA from Universit degli Studi Guglielmo Marconi and a CEDILS certificate to teach Italian as a second language issued by Ca' Foscari University.I teach Italian grammar, vocabulary and culture as well as conversational Italian and I help students prepare for their CELI and CILS exams.I believe that to be a good teacher listening is key. Understanding my students helps me tailor classes to their needs and maintain a flexible approach along the way.In my spare time I go from being outdoorsy to a full-on homebody. During my summers in college, I worked with EducationUSA Nairobi, an advising center for Kenyan students who wish to pursue higher education in the US. When I worked for them, I tutored high school graduates on SAT stuff and also helped them write better personal statements. After graduating from Duke last year, I started tutoring high school students in my neighborhood. I mainly taught math subjects such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Trigonometry, Geometry, Basic Math and Problem Solving but I'm well versed in Reading and Writing subjects as well. I'm vastly experienced and very patient with all my students. In my free time I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking etc.

Before I moved to NYC to study Musical Theater at a conservatory, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of California, San Diego and received a BA in Music. While at UC San Diego, I earned a minor in Theater as well as studied Marine Science and Oceanography as a hobby. I believe in looking at academia creatively and looking at the creative arts with discipline. My philosophy is study early and from all angles, so that when the test comes, there's really no need to worry. From my conservatory actor training, I also hold many centering down techniques that can assist with test anxiety. I've always enjoyed studying, making it memorable with silly mnemonic devices, fun flashcards and color codes! My favorite subjects to tutor are English, U.S. History and Music or Dramatic arts.
