AP Biology Tutor • +20 Subjects

I am a graduate of St. Edward's University in Austin, Texas. I received my Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Psychology. I am applying to medical school this summer. I have three years of experience teaching Chemistry and Biology to undergraduates as a Supplemental Instruction Leader and Teaching Assistant in a upper divisions Cell Biology Laboratory. I am passionate about teaching science, especially Acid Base Chemistry, Metabolism, and Molecular Biology. I enjoy these subjects because I believe that all biological processes and physiology can be essentially explained through the principles of chemistry. Nothing excites me more than helping students grasp complex concepts and improve their grades. I tutor AP Biology, AP Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, various levels of Spanish, including AP Spanish Language, and AP Spanish Literature and Culture. I am a qualified Spanish tutor, not only because I am a native Peruvian speaker, but because I received a formal bilingual education where I received outstanding scores in both AP Spanish Language and Literature and Culture. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and tweeting about neuroscience, cooking, drawing, and running. In fact, I am currently training for the Nike Women's Half Marathon DC for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

I currently a student at the University of Texas at Austin, working towards my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Computer Engineering. While in high school, I worked as a tutor for several maths and science courses such as physics, algebra, calculus and maths to students of all ages and levels. I enjoy teaching these subjects because there are many ways to approach problems in these subjects and both me and the student get to exercise creative in the way we tackle the problem. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, camping, going to the gym, and spending time with friends at coffee shops.

I spent five years in the Marine Corps as a Pashto Cryptologic Linguist. I attended the Defense Language Institute for two years to learn Pashto, an Afghan language. After I gained a certain degree of fluency in that language, I began tutoring other Marines, an experience which I deeply enjoyed. I'm a great tutor because I understand that everyone has difficulty with a few subjects, but through patience and dedicated effort those difficulties can be surmounted. In the past, some courses have been difficult for me. However, I think that occasionally struggling with a particular subject can make a person really dig in and truly learn the material. I want to help students who are looking for tutoring because I've been where they are - I've wanted someone that could explain concepts simply, in plain English, with no condescension. That's the kind of tutor I strive to be, and I hope by being that tutor I can help you.In my free time I love reading military memoirs and studying foreign languages.

I am an undergrad student at The University of Arizona. I'm working toward a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish focusing on Translation and Interpretation, a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and a Minor in the Korean Language. I'm highly motivated and wish to help others reach their full academic potential. I have worked with kids through high school and have helped out my peers as well over the years. While some don't find learning to be their strong suit, I aim to help ease them onto a path where they feel more comfortable with the materials they may be struggling with.

Conversational French Tutor • +15 Subjects

I've been teaching French in various settings for the past four years, and I'm currently getting my PhD in French Linguistics. I've taught and tutored all ages and all kinds of students, and I particularly enjoy teaching conversational French to people preparing to travel. I believe language learning is the most fun kind of learning, and I make sure that learning French is an enjoyable experience for my students. A lot of people are intimidated by the challenge of learning a new language, even though they already learned one when they were just a baby! I've seen time and again how when languages are taught properly, learning them goes from intimidating to exciting and fun. If you're feeling challenged by French, I can give you the guidance you need to make faster progress than you thought possible.

I earned a Master's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Houston, as well as a Bachelor's Degree from Morgan State University, located in Baltimore Maryland. I majored in Math because, after trying out a few other majors, I realized it was the one subject that came easiest to me, and actually found fun. Even as a kid, I've always enjoyed solving puzzles and games. So, learning math was a way to apply my problem-solving talent and my love of logic.I'd say, I first realized I also had a passion for TEACHING math during my experience as a graduate teaching assistant. Thus, after finishing college, I'd often teach math as an adjunct professor. Eventually, I decided to go all in, and I taught math at a high school in Washington D.C. for a couple of years. I followed that up by teaching at a community college in the D.C. area for over a year. After that, I moved from D.C. to the Dallas Fort-Worth area (where I still reside), and took a short break from teaching. But the teaching bug wouldn't go away. So, in 2010, I returned to the academic world, and I obtained a full-time Math Instructor position at Tarrant County College here in DFW, and worked there for 10 years, where I grew both personally and professionally. One of my strengths is my communication skills, and over the years I worked hard to hone many of my explanations, to make them as clear and concise as I think I can. Some of the compliments that I've received from students I taught and tutored is that I'm patient, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic.

I love the world of STEM - from math, to physics, to chemistry. I guess that's why I became an engineer! I am hoping to help young minds feel inspired and empowered to contribute to the ever-changing field of STEM.I discovered tutoring a few years ago when I realized that the best way for me to master a subject was also by sharing my knowledge of the subject with others - so we could each succeed together. Mentoring is a big passion of mine so by tutoring young minds, it has allowed me to become a role model for some students as they navigate through their academic goals.I have have discovered ways to simplify complex subjects to others by improving note-taking skills, showing step-by-step work/examples, color-coding information, and making the topics within a subject more engaging. This has helped students make tutoring feel more fun rather than feel like a chore or "extra school."I have also managed to navigate a tutoring environment both in-person and virtual so I can easily adapt to current circumstances if needed.

I graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University and now am a medical student at Texas A&M College of Medicine. I have knowledge in a broad field of areas and subjects and I am always excited to teach willing students. My philosophy is that there are no hard subjects. Any difficult concept can be broken down into easier, more digestible content, based on how well a tutor can understand their students. And that is what I believe I can help achieve with any student of mine of any age.

I have a Bachelor of Arts from Duke University and a Master of Arts from the University of Chicago. At Duke, I studied both English Literature and Environmental Sciences and Policy; at the University of Chicago, I received a degree in Social Work. My teaching experiences have been broad and enriching -- I've taught elementary and middle school students in Sanxia, Taiwan; college students in Toamasina, Madagascar (where I lived in a lemur reserve!); and middle and high school students from across the US who participated in experiential education and leadership conferences in Washington, DC. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Literature, Writing, and ESL. I love helping students gain the confidence and skills to excel on the Critical Reading and Writing portions of standardized tests. My teaching approach is individualized, positive, warm, respectful, and fun. I encourage students to not be afraid to take intellectual risks or make mistakes, as that's when much learning happens! In addition to tutoring, I work as a researcher at the University of Chicago, with plans to pursue a PhD in the near future. In my spare time, I love reading novels and ethnographies, writing fiction and music, traveling, and exploring the outdoors as a backpacker, fly fisherman, and naturalist.
