Hello! I am a Ph.D. student at the University of Texas at Austin studying Computational Science. I graduated cum laude from Cornell University with a B.Sc. in Computer Science.My doctoral studies fall at the overlap of mathematics, computer science, and physics. I enjoy coding software that adheres to professional coding standards but deals with solving complex physical problems. I have half a decade of experience coding in C/C++/Java. Some of the extensive projects that I have built include a microkernel in C, a puzzle video game in C++ and a compiler in Java.Over the past few years, I have tutored students in senior level college computer science courses in operating systems and computer vision. I recently obtained my Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology. Shortly after graduation, I accepted a year-long tutoring job with a high school Senior at a preparatory school in Albuquerque. I provided this student with regular instruction in International Baccalaureate level Biology, which is a rigorous curriculum similar to that of the more commonly known Advanced Placement curriculum.Around the same time, I also worked as a long term Substitute Teacher for Albuquerque Public Schools. During this time, I came to appreciate a wide array of learning styles and teaching techniques. Part of what makes me an excellent Tutor is my understanding of the fact that every student learns differently and that one must be patient while determining the best way to help a struggling student understand a difficult concept.While I am most passionate about Biology, I also tutor Middle School Math and Algebra. However, I still consider myself a pre-dental student, because main goal is to become a dentist.I have plenty of experience in tutoring high school students in the French language and culture, mostly through judging them in various events at the Texas French Symposium, a state-wide high school French competition for students in all levels of French. I absolutely love sharing my love of the French language and culture with others. As for Biology, and most other sciences, I find that most students struggle in learning the tiny details because they have trouble understanding the major concepts behind those details. I found the experience to be highly beneficial to the students' comprehension, and for my own personal experience. For Example, working with middle-school aged students helped me grasp the needs and accommodations that would best benefit for that group of students. On the other hand, I've gained the necessities for tutoring students on the high school level through my current job, at the Boys and Girls club.Like many other Austinites, I spend a large amount of time doing outdoor activities in and around the city. One of my favorite and oldest things to do is to run the Hike and Bike trail every Sunday morning. I also delve out into other areas of the city looking for new parks and trails. I also spend a fair amount of time drawing portraits and working on pencil illustration. I found there to be a large amount of math in certain categories of drawing. Since then, just as math needs high-attention to detail, I've found dedicating the same amount of detail in my drawing always produces an impressive product (at least to myself).My goal is to reveal to students that the first step to learning something new is to first understand the basics. A misunderstanding at the basic level will hinder the student from learning new material correctly, and will inevitably cause confusion and create further obstacles.

Mathematics, as a discipline, is one of the most important human achievements andit can be very simple if explained very well. Therefore, my global teaching idea is toreveal main mathematical concepts in a deep way of understanding and to form a fundament that could not be forgotten in the future. I received my Master's if Science Degree in Speech Language Pathology with a Bachelor's of Education in Communication Disorders. I also received honors for studies in History and Music. My background includes English, Communication and Literacy, vocal performance studies, vocal disorders and neurological communication disorders. Since graduation, I have worked with children and adults in helping them develop literacy skills, language skills, learning to communicate more effectively due to communication breakdowns whether from disorders, social skills or due to accent difficulties. I also worked as a vocal coach and voice therapist. I am an advocate for education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, sewing, and occasionally gaming.

Prior to this, I received a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Texas State University-San Marcos and, while pursuing my M.F.A., lived in San Antonio. As I continue my graduate studies and teach colege-level courses, I am excited to share my love of the written word with students who want to grow as writers and readers. While the majority of my tutoring and teaching experience has taken place within a college writing center or classroom setting, I would be well-suited to work with college-bound high school students preparing for AP English exams and college application essays. I also have extensive experience working with students who have developmental and remedial educational needs and, additionally, have experience tutoring students for whom English is a second language. Where literature is concerned, aside from being well-versed in early British literature, I also have abiding interests in African-American literature, Mexican-American literature, Native-American literature, and poetry in particular across time. Other interests include foreign languages in general and the Spanish language in particular, the American Southwest, classical music and music in general (I sing and play the clarinet, oboe, recorder, and ocarina), the visual arts, Star Wars and Star Trek, and the Middle Ages. I love being outdoors and am an avid hiker and backpacker. I also love to travel and have wandered across the United States, Mexico, Peru, India, and England. I hope to return to India one day and dream of going to Thailand and Tibet. My work schedule keeps me fairly busy and my cats Linus and Fergus keep me perpetually on my toes, but in my spare time, I enjoy practicing yoga, discovering the next best place to eat that nobody has ever heard of, combing through the shelves at Halfprice Books, and exploring the city of Austin.

Currently, I am working toward a Ph.D. in Anthropology (again, with a focus on archaeology) at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I tutored elementary school students in math and Spanish while I was in high school, and for the past three years have served as a teaching assistant for numerous undergraduate courses at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have also given a number of guest lectures on archaeology and my research, and recently taught an introductory archaeology course at the same institution.
