I am a Brown University senior graduating this May with a bachelors of science in neuroscience. For the past year and a half I have spent numerous hours as a volunteer for Let's Get Ready, a SAT and college prep program. I began my involvement in this organization purely on a whim, in order to give back to the community around me. I quickly discovered my passion for teaching, however, and began serving as the head math coach within a few short months. Teaching has allowed me to take part in the development of future intellects. To this purpose, I teach only mathematics and science, as those are my personal favorite subjects. I also focus on improving one's ability to think through a problem, as opposed to learning simply by base memorization. I do this because when a student's focus is solely on memorization, they often quickly forget the material due to time or stress. However, the skills one gains from learning how to think through problems are much more stable and flexible. This flexibility allows for those skills to be used in multiple subjects, and towards more advanced learning.

College Algebra Tutor • +59 Subjects

I am a student at Brown University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. In high school, I took a multitude of AP and college courses, so I am qualified to work with students on challenging material. I took high-level mathematics courses at a local university while in high school and participated in gifted programs as well as internship and research opportunities. My most recent tutoring endeavors include: tutoring math and reading for a variety of grades from K-12 and working for a private tutoring company as an SAT instructor, leading test-prep classes for high school students. I continue to pursue my educational and personal goals while at Brown. Although I am most experienced in the maths and sciences, I also love teaching English subjects as well as social sciences. I also value community involvement and have a love for the arts. I have danced for more than 15 years, on company teams and for benefit events in several communities. I also really enjoying figure skating, swimming, and participating in robotics programs and other enrichment activities. I have a passion for learning about and tutoring the maths and sciences because I have always been curious about the world around us, and science is a process of searching for fundamental and universal principles that govern causes and effects in the universe. I enjoy tutoring students for the opportunity to aid them in their quest for knowledge and to help them to question the world around them. I am a strong proponent of education and am excited to guide other students, helping them achieve their educational goals!

I am a lover of learning and helping others learn. As a student, I have had great success at rigorous and selective schools, earning my Bachelor's with High Honors and Phi Beta Kappa from Swarthmore College and my Master's with perfect grades from Brown University. Since leaving formal education, I continue to pursue learning opportunities through independent reading and professional development. I often tell my students that learning is my addiction, as many make fun of my choices for "fun" reading. As a teacher, I am certified to teach Social Studies grades 7-12 and currently teach high school social studies. I have additional experience teaching elementary school students, middle school school students, and adult learners. With my training from Brown as well as ongoing training from the Rhode Island Department of Education and other reputable providers, I continue to hone my abilities to facilitate the learning process for students of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds. I am a graduate of Brown University, and I received my Bachelor of Arts in Classics and Evolutionary Biology. Throughout my undergraduate years, I tutored and mentored children from the local area, refugee children and adult immigrants. While living in Atlanta, I worked with the Fugees Family program tutoring and mentoring refugees, as well as worked with high school students from the Atlanta area. While I enjoy tutoring many subjects, I am most passionate about Classical and English Literature and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. In my experiences assisting students with tough concepts, I always try to cater to the student's best learning style and work to make the material approachable, engaging and relevant. I believe that learning how to learn and loving to learn are critical skills and I hope to pass on this appreciation to my students. In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, reading, and making art.

I'm a Math and French major at Brown University, and I've been tutoring for over three years. I have worked with young kids taking elementary-level math, middle school students taking Pre-Algebra and Algebra, high school students taking Pre-Calculus and Calculus, college students taking Calculus I/II and Linear Algebra -- and any level in between! Tutoring is one of my favorite activities, because every student I work with teaches me something new about my field. In addition to doing math and writing French poetry, I play the piano, contract bridge, soccer and tennis. I am also a passionate vegan, and hope to one day combine math and language into a field that draws on both the sciences and the humanities. Hobbies: reading, music, writing, art, books
