I am an undergraduate at Brown University concentrating in Education and American Studies. I have experience working with elementary, middle, and high school students as a tutor in individual learning environments. I have also worked as a museum educator and a camp counselor. My goal is to help students by engaging them in their learning, setting challenges, and empowering them succeed. My passion is working with students until the "aha!" moment when students know how to solve a difficult problem. I am a Brown University senior graduating this May with a bachelors of science in neuroscience. For the past year and a half I have spent numerous hours as a volunteer for Let's Get Ready, a SAT and college prep program. I began my involvement in this organization purely on a whim, in order to give back to the community around me. I quickly discovered my passion for teaching, however, and began serving as the head math coach within a few short months. Teaching has allowed me to take part in the development of future intellects. To this purpose, I teach only mathematics and science, as those are my personal favorite subjects. I also focus on improving one's ability to think through a problem, as opposed to learning simply by base memorization. I do this because when a student's focus is solely on memorization, they often quickly forget the material due to time or stress. However, the skills one gains from learning how to think through problems are much more stable and flexible. This flexibility allows for those skills to be used in multiple subjects, and towards more advanced learning.

I am from Bolivia and speak fluent Spanish. Outside of academics I love playing sports, taking pictures, dancing, and going to the beach. Hobbies: art, sports, books, reading, writing, music, dancing

I'm comfortable with a wide range of subjects but I'm most passionate about History, English and Literature. These are topics I love discussing in general and I'm always happy to have a chance to help someone else find enjoyment in the subject. Trying to encourage of love of learning is an important part of my teaching philosophy and I try to do so by finding out what my students are interested in.

In high school, I took a multitude of AP and college courses, so I am qualified to work with students on challenging material. I took high-level mathematics courses at a local university while in high school and participated in gifted programs as well as internship and research opportunities. My most recent tutoring endeavors include: tutoring math and reading for a variety of grades from K-12 and working for a private tutoring company as an SAT instructor, leading test-prep classes for high school students. I continue to pursue my educational and personal goals while at Brown. Although I am most experienced in the maths and sciences, I also love teaching English subjects as well as social sciences. I also value community involvement and have a love for the arts. I have danced for more than 15 years, on company teams and for benefit events in several communities. Since leaving formal education, I continue to pursue learning opportunities through independent reading and professional development. I often tell my students that learning is my addiction, as many make fun of my choices for "fun" reading. As a teacher, I am certified to teach Social Studies grades 7-12 and currently teach high school social studies. I have additional experience teaching elementary school students, middle school school students, and adult learners. Since graduation, I joined the Rhode Island Teaching Fellows where I had the opportunity to work towards a teaching certificate and begin my journey in the classroom. Throughout my undergraduate years, I tutored and mentored children from the local area, refugee children and adult immigrants. While living in Atlanta, I worked with the Fugees Family program tutoring and mentoring refugees, as well as worked with high school students from the Atlanta area. While I enjoy tutoring many subjects, I am most passionate about Classical and English Literature and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.
