PERSONAL STATEMENTI earned a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from Drake University, Master's degrees in both Educational Administration and Special Education, and a doctorate from the University of the Nebraska at Omaha, NE.I tutor all elementary and middle school general education subjects and special education for those students as well. My favorite subjects to tutor are math, science, and social studies. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy spending time with our large extended family, spending time with our dog, reading, and traveling when I can. When I was a child, I always looked for role models and one of my elementary teachers, Mrs. John stepped up as a very influential figure in my life. Her personal interest helped me know I could be successful in life. I have tried to use the same inspiration I received so many years ago in my career in education for the past 40 years. As a teacher, I believe that a desire to teach, enthusiasm, and dedication for your subject are three key elements for teaching, but we must also care deeply for children. We must have the will to develop strong relationships with learners to enhance the learning process. As an experienced teacher, I am excited about the opportunity to continue to apply my skills as a tutor. I have face-to-face classroom experience at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have taught general and special education. I have taught face-to-face classes, hybrid, and on-line classes at the university level.I am enthusiastic about trying to influence my students by showing interest in them, being committed to developing relationships with them as learners, and by implementing teaching strategies to help them learn. In these ways, I hope to make learning memorable and transform the way they view their world.

I have two masters degrees, one in Music from Houghton College and the other in Library Science from the University of Missouri - Columbia. The English language, both in reading and writing have been a main interest in my life. Throughout the time I was studying Music and Library Science, I tutored both peers and high school students in English reading, writing, diction, and test preparation. I tutored my peers in test preparation and writing skills from 2004 to 2010. From 2010 to the present, I taught diction, writing, and reading to both international students and native speakers. My favorite subject to teach is writing because it is a skill that incorporates all other English skills. I believe that everyone is capable of learning, and will gain confidence as they accomplish small learning goals. If the goals are too broad, the learning experience will be too overwhelming and the student may lose confidence in his or her abilities. I enjoy research, learning new things, and helping others reach their learning goals. Outside of academics, I enjoy gardening, music, and the company of my four dogs. I also enjoy needlework and cosplay. I consider tutoring a privilege and look forward to helping anyone I am able.

As an instructor it will be my job to set the standard for what my expectations are and how to meet them. As a teacher, it would be unfair to ask those I am teaching to do activities or meet requirements that I myself am unwilling or unable to meet. Secondly, creating an atmosphere that is professional and stays true to the teacher/student relationship that will be cultivated will be important, but so will creating a relationship based on trust and respect. At the end of the day I hope to create a space that encourages critical thinking, entertaining different views than their own and engaging with each other in a respectful and accepting manner. If they can grow and learn from each other as a class and leave the semester with not only a better understanding of the world around them, but a more optimistic outlook on life and their individual futures, I will consider it a job well done.

I desire to serve as a Tutor because I had a great and unique experience taking a variety of courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Because of that experience, I have had to think of different ways to study and remain motivated over 7 years. I would love to pass that knowledge on to incoming students taking the courses related to health sciences. I was a health science major that is interested in helping others to learn because I know that it takes lots of different learning styles in order to truly understand the material. As a very organized person I am also able to focus and be dedicated towards my responsibilities, including Tutoring responsibilities. Over my time in different courses I learned the skills in order to identify trouble areas and put in the extra effort needed in order to learn it in different ways efficiently. I am very passionate about the material and why people are choosing to learn it. I think that my communication skills, open personality, and personable nature will make me an effective Tutor.

I earned a MBA degree at Northeastern University. I received my undergraduate degree in Computer Science Engineering. Ever since graduation I have been performing coaching/teaching activities at the different industries I have worked in including Oil, Technology, Banking, Finance, Health and now properly in Education since 2006. I have lived in different countries for a considerable amount of time including Brazil, Costa Rica, Venezuela and Panama. As you can tell, most of them Spanish speaking countries with the exception of the first one. I have tutored extensively in Spanish in most cases students from International Schools who require preparation in math for standardized tests such as the PSAT, SAT and ACT as well as for other international examinations; though it is noteworthy I tutor a broad range of academic subjects and standardized tests. I enjoy the spontaneity of the students. I like to ask questions while the class takes place in order to make sure the subject is understood. I care about students reaching their goals, and that is why I constantly remind them the importance of committing to regular practice. In a competitive world the student who is better prepared is the one that stands out accessing the best programs and universities. In my leisure time I enjoy reading novels, watching movies and TV comedy series, biking, yoga, overall I enjoy a pacific and healthy life.

In May of 2015, I graduated from the University of Saint Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. There, I earned my degree in Biochemistry while working as a coffee shop barista, environmental chemistry laboratory assistant, and emergency department medical scribe. Further, as an undergraduate, I developed a love for teaching as I worked as a Teacher's Assistant in various biology and chemistry laboratory courses and later had the opportunity to serve as a private tutor in Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. I enjoyed the opportunity to work with students in the subject areas I love. With academic understanding comes excitement, further curiosity, and a sense of achievement. Leading my students toward this understanding is my goal, and something I take great pride in. In August of 2015, I began my medical school education at Creighton University. I am excited to continue working as a tutor while earning a degree that will allow me to be a life-long teacher.

I am a tutor at Marquette University studying Writing-Intensive English and Public Relations. I work at the Ott Memorial Writing Center with students of many ages and backgrounds. My goal is to ensure all students have the writing skills they need to find success in academics and beyond. To me, there is no such thing as bad writing; there is only disorganized writing. I know all students have great ideas in their mind. My job is to simply help them place those wonderful thoughts and arguments onto the page. Organization, clarity, and motivation are my main areas of focus. I want writing to be something everyone can enjoy, no matter the topic!

I graduated from Coe College in May 2022. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Sociology and Creative Writing. In my time at Coe College, I worked as a Sociology tutor and an Executive Function Coach. During this time, I worked with multiple students to create personalized study schedules and techniques. I am passionate about tutoring in Writing and Sociology. Our words hold power, and figuring out the best way to deliver these words is an exciting and rewarding process that I would like to help cultivate. Sociology is all about connecting history, individual biography, and social structures to figure out the way the world works. I want to help my students broaden their understandings about people and the world, as well as sharpen their writing skills so they can effectively communicate their unique thoughts.

In May 2020, I earned a bachelor of science in chemistry with honors along with a dual minor in animal ecology and anthropology at Iowa State University. With a strong work ethic and extreme dedication, I was accepted into the PhD program in chemistry at the University of Washington in Seattle where I will begin this journey this fall. I have been an active varsity tutor for two months; however, I have two years of hands on teaching experience where I was a general chemistry teaching assistant at ISU. My overall passion for teaching was highlighted this past semester where I was rewarded an excellence in teaching from the chemistry department along with receiving an ACS award in inorganic chemistry for my undergraduate research. I primarily focused on general chemistry on varsity tutors; however, I also tutor subjects related to physical chemistry such as quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, and kinetics. I throughly enjoy tutoring physical chemistry because I love the math involved with this field along with the practical applications physical chemistry can offer such as molecular spectroscopy. My teaching philosophy is to assess the current understanding of the student and build on the current knowledge they have learned. I am very patience with my students. I make sure to break down the material taught in the class and remold it into helpful "chunks" of information that is hopefully easier for the student to digest. I am extremely adaptable as well where I offer different strategies such as visual/tactical approaches based on the needs of the student. Outside of academia, I watch Tv shows, play video games, and enjoy taking walks in nature. I have a genuine passion to teach chemistry and if you have any further questions feel free to contact me!
