I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more.

I am a doctor-in-training and I believe that every student has their unique style of learning, which requires a unique style of teaching as well. My goal is to ensure every student learns in a way that helps them understand and retain the knowledge better.I believe you understood the material only when you can explain any person in lay-man terms. I try to understand every student's goals and expectations prior to the session, which helps me work with them efficiently. I like to form a trust-based relationship with the students, which could enhance their learning.

I recently (semi-)retired from the I.T. industry after 40+ years - the last 20 years or so I have been in consulting work. I have always enjoyed teaching/tutoring and looked forward to working with junior engineers to get them "up to speed". Now, I am looking forward to making tutoring part of my daily routine.Back in the day, I was an undergrad at Harvey Mudd College (Claremont, CA). and grad student at UC Berkeley. Fast forward 40+ years and my wife and I are living in Maple Grove MN (20 miles NW of Minneapolis). In addition to tutoring and working some part time consulting gigs, I love spending time with my 2 grandkids, and my three grown kids.As an undergraduate student, I tutored engineering and math courses in walk-in 'help' sessions. My subjects were math (calculus I and II, and systems engineering.) As a graduate student, I taught computer programming for peers in my graduate program. The purpose was to share knowledge with my peers so that they could complete computer programming assignments as required in their class work. At the graduate level, I also worked with my Professor in designing and implementing statistically based choice modeling programs using complex mathematical algorithms.Professionally I have mentored numerous entry level engineers in both hard and soft work skills to succeed on their job. The mentoring was primarily technology related (computer science and math topics), but frequently communication skills were discussed, which are so important on the job. I learned a lot about tutoring through the opportunity to mentor over 40 years of professionalwork. This was something I truly enjoyed, and was instrumental in my decision to tutor after I retired from full time work.I have a special love of mathematics and continue to teach myself advanced topics to this day. I am still proud of placing 3rd in the State of Arizona math challenge for high school juniors - and "math is fun" has been part of my life ever since. One of my greatest thrills was working with my son through his high school years to prepare him for advanced placement as a math major in his undergraduate work. In the meantime, I keep fresh on my math skills by working problems - including trig and calculus- on a weekly basis. (And YES!, it is for fun too).I look forward to sharing my love of learning with my students!

AP French Language and Culture Tutor • +21 Subjects
My lifelong personal, professional, and academic experiences have given me extensive knowledge of Spanish, French, and Italian. I was raised in a multilingual environment and hold degrees earned in 3 countries (a BA in the U.S., a Master's in Venezuela, and a Doctorate in France). I find it easy to transmit my passion for languages to students and offer courses that challenge and motivate them, through meaningful and, at the same time, fun activities. I enjoy tutoring high school and college students who want to improve their grades, and also adults in general who are interested in becoming proficient in either Spanish, French, or Italian, and in understanding the cultural complexities of the countries where these languages are spoken.

I taught chemistry, organic chemistry and the advanced chemistry courses of Advanced Placement and IB Chemistry in high school for many years. I enjoyed my students and they inspired me to continually deepen my understanding of chemistry content through advanced course work and science workshops. In addition, because of my students interest beyond the classroom, I challenged myself to be a part of state and national science education programs. I was a part of the Teacher in Space Program and have worked with NASA educational programs for many years. I have been involved in state and national science teacher certification programs. I received my undergraduate education and chemistry teaching certification from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I completed my Masters Degree at the UW-Madison during the summers after graduation, while teaching during the school year. I continue to take formal classes and informal workshops at local colleges most years.I am a constructivist thinker and educator. That means I build a my own network of science concepts by connecting new scientific information to information I already know. I enjoy the process of science, gathering data, analyzing the information, then trying to develop theories that can connect the data. I feel that each student needs the time and opportunity to build his or her own scaffold of science knowledge. By building a network of concepts themselves, students will own that knowledge. Once a student develops a network of knowledge, he or she can easily learn new science knowledge and add the concepts to the existing framework.I grew up on a small farm with dairy cows, hogs and chickens. We were organic farmers and field work was done with horses, tractors, and with old and modern machinery. Every day farming held a new science lesson. Most often the science was explained by my parents; predicting weather, planting crops, caring for animals, fixing machinery and repairing fences. Through my early experience farming I developed love of wondering why. Studying science seemed just natural. With my own family I continued to raise and show dairy goats. Currently we operate a horse boarding stable. I still enjoy additional farm work for our stable, like repairing the fence and operating machinery.Professionally, I have enjoyed my work with NASA. I have been to most NASA research facilities. I have seen many items in the research stage, for example cell phones, (yes, there was a time before cell phones) and HD TV. I have worked in research facilities on college campuses and in commercial company research facilities. Research work is slow, meticulous and owe inspiring. The research work gave me a new appreciation for how scientific knowledge actually moves forward.I enjoy science and I enjoy students. My lifes work has been to link the two together.

I enjoy teaching math because to the student who doesn't understand, it is a riddle with no answer. By teaching them how to recognize the type of problem and how to decode the clues, the student gets to be on the other side of the riddle, the side on which they solve it and feel good about it.

I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a Master's of Science degree in Occupational Therapy with a specialization in education. I also have taken extra college classes in Mathematics and Science to further my education. I worked for a few years on the clinical side of Occupational Therapy, and then my career path took a new direction. I got involved in a tutoring program for students at the K-12 level. I loved it immediately; I had found my true passion: working with and helping children. I started teaching students in various environments and to students of all levels.I have assisted teaching in a school, substitute taught for grades k-12 in all subject areas, tutored at a center for kids with special needs, tutored on-one-on in homes, taught lessons in an after-school program, and managed a team of tutors. I have tutored the subjects of Mathematics, Science, Reading, English, Writing, History, Spanish, and ACT/SAT Preparation. I have also been in a director role for an after-school program for three years. My true passion is working with children and helping them to feel confident, excited about learning, and positive about their futures. I believe allowing students to interact through auditory, visual, and tactile systems gives them a deeper understanding of their environments and the material presented to them.In the past, I have been able to learn from my students, laugh with them, teach them and advise them. I have always worked hard to overcome obstacles presented to me in my life, and I would love the opportunity to help other students to have this perspective as well. In my free time, I like to teach yoga, practice Pilates, and dance. I love to read, snowboard, and walk/bike along the beach.
