Zariah Sittig's Goals and Aspirations by Zariah - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

Coming from a two teacher household, one thing both my parents were determined to teach my sister and me was the value of education. This is one of the things that I believe sets me apart from some of my peers around me - I have been privy to viewing the educational world through multiple lenses. While it is true that I do have goals for myself, my long-term goal is to help whoever I can with all the assets I am able to cultivate through college. I plan to attend South Dakota State University because of its reputable music program and overall credibility within the professional world. I have participated in many different areas of the fine arts—concert band, marching band, indoor percussion, choir, theater, oral interp—and all of them have brought unique aspects and lessons into my life that I want to share with as many as possible. I plan to continue my participation in many of these activities, and while it is wearing at times, I fully believe that it is worth the time commitment. I want to learn as much as possible from my own educational journey and from the professional world in order to eventually spread the joy of music, theatre, and learning through performing and education.

I have always held my stubborn aspirations close to my heart. I want to help the world around me and offer the love and support that I see lacking in certain areas. Whenever I start to loose my internal drive to reach my high goals, I think of all the people I could help fine purpose and joy through music as I have. If I will not do it for myself, I think of the people that I would do it for.
