Small Lists, Big Results: How a Simple Habit Changed My Success by Yanthery - February 2026 Scholarship Essay

One small habit that has made a big difference in my academic and personal success is writing a daily to do list. It sounds really simple, but it honestly changed the way I handle school and life in general.

Before I started doing this, I would try to remember everything in my head. I would forget assignments, wait until the last minute to study, and feel stressed because I didn't know where to start. Once I began writing down what I needed to do every day, everything felt before school. I include homework, tests to study for, and even small things like practice or chores.

This habit helps me manage my time better. When I see everything written out, I can plan which tasks to do first instead of procrastinating. It also feels really good to check things off the list because it shows that I'm actually getting things done. That small sense of accomplishment motivates me to keep going.

Personally, it has helped me feel less overwhelmed. When I break big assignments into smaller tasks on my list, they don't seem as scary. Insted of thinking,"I have a huge project due," I think, "Today I just need to finish the outline." That mindset has helped me stay calmer and more confident.

Overall, writing a daily to-do list is a small routine, but it has had a big impact on my success. It keeps me organized, reduces stress, and helps me stay focused on my goals. Sometimes the smallest habits can make the biggest difference.
