Technological Impact in Classrooms by Tyler - November 2025 Scholarship Essay

Without technology, present day classrooms would never be able to achieve the level of effectiveness that they are currently at. We’ve evolved our classrooms from simple rooms with books and chalkboards to an entire ecosystem of knowledge. That is the impact of technology in not only my classroom, but of classrooms in various places.
Today, we no longer have to look to vast libraries of thick and dusty text books, we simply can use a computer. A monumental piece of technology that allows a vast amount of knowledge to just lie behind a small screen, ready to be accessed at any time, by anyone. It has allowed for the spread of knowledge from people all over the world to students wherever they are.
This single technological advancement could be the subject of an entire essay on its own, but the truth is that it is not the only technology that we’ve implemented over the years. We can look towards a more simple innovation that has also impacted many classrooms. The projector. Without the projector it would be difficult to share any knowledge from any computer to a wide audience such as a classroom. The projector, as a technology, has improved our ability as students to see what the teacher is doing, to observe the many experiments and demonstrations, and to effectively take notes. Yet, there is another simple technological innovation that is often overlooked, the whiteboard.
Although chalkboards are still in use today, many of their downsides have been fixed by the whiteboard, which offers a smoother, more reliable writing experience. It also has the added benefit of not leaving as much residue as chalk would. It is often these simple innovations that we overlook when we think of the word “technology”, because to me, technology is simply something that makes life easier or helps to make tasks more effective.
On a more controversial level, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence has also given way to both good and bad innovations. Due to its more recent nature, it still is being heavily debated on. On one hand, it can be the best assistant to ever exist. With the world’s near infinite knowledge at its disposal, and split second response times. It can be the ultimate tool to demolish writers’ block, organize tasks, study, or anything for that matter. However, on the other hand, due to its vast knowledge, it carries the temptation of academic dishonesty, writing entire essays, solving homework problems, etc.
In conclusion, technology isn’t limited to computers and artificial intelligence, it can even be the simple things. Their impacts can help tremendously, such as in the case of the computer, or help us learn just a little bit more, like in the case of the projector. And without it, many of us wouldn’t have been able to learn as effectively from our classrooms.
