Strength by Trinity - January 2026 Scholarship Essay

I discovered a new strength in myself on a quiet evening while planning for the spring semester. I was sitting with my class schedule and tuition information in front of me, realizing that continuing school might not be guaranteed. For the first time, I seriously questioned whether I would be able to move forward. That moment forced me to look inward, and I realized that even when the situation felt uncertain, my determination to keep going was stronger than my fear.

Instead of letting doubt stop me, I made a choice. I focused on what I could control. I stayed committed to my coursework, continued preparing for the semester, and searched for opportunities that would allow me to remain enrolled. It was during that process that I recognized a strength I had not fully acknowledged before: persistence. I learned that I do not shut down when things get hard. I keep going, even when the outcome is unclear.

That strength has shown itself in other areas of my life as well. As the Social Media Co Chair for the National Council of Negro Women, I learned the importance of consistency and responsibility. There were times when the work felt repetitive or unnoticed, but I showed up anyway. I realized that growth does not always come from being recognized. Sometimes it comes from staying committed when motivation fades. That experience helped me trust my ability to follow through.

Earning my CPR certification through Jackson Hospital further reinforced this strength. The training required focus, preparation, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Knowing that I could respond in an emergency made me more confident in myself. It showed me that preparation and persistence matter, especially when others depend on you.

Discovering this strength has influenced my growth in meaningful ways. I now approach challenges with a different mindset. When something feels overwhelming, I do not immediately doubt myself. I remind myself that I have faced uncertainty before and continued forward. This mindset has helped me become more disciplined in my studies and more confident in my long-term goals. I push myself to learn something new every day, even when progress feels slow.

This realization has also shaped how I view my future. I plan to become an orthopedic doctor, and I understand that the path will not be easy. There will be setbacks, long hours, and moments of doubt. However, discovering my persistence has given me confidence that I can handle those challenges. I no longer see obstacles as reasons to stop, but as part of the journey.

That evening while planning for the spring semester may have seemed ordinary, but it revealed something important about who I am. I discovered that persistence is one of my greatest strengths. It continues to guide my decisions, shape my growth, and push me forward, even when the path ahead feels uncertain.
