In my lifetime, I have done a lot of things I wish I had not done and a lot of things I wish I have done. Once upon a time in my life I made the stupid decision to not take school seriously and because of it I had to go to summer school to make up for my freshman year. The minute I found out I failed the 9th grade, I was devastated, I felt that i failed myself and to see my mother crying because of it made me feel even worse. However, my mother crying over my failure was not the thing that stuck with me the most, it was the talk i had with my uncle after he found out. My dad was never present in my life, so I really looked at my uncle as a father figure, he took me in as his own. The feedback he bestowed upon me that day stuck with me heavily and i will never forget this one thing he said in the mist of giving me his feedback. He said, “The only man who makes no mistakes, is the man who doesn’t do anything at all.” Once he told me that it’s like a light lit up inside of me, I had to prove everyone wrong and show them that i can graduate and that i can make a major comeback from a minor setback. That very piece of feedback has shaped me into a better man, driven to better myself each day little by little. Feedback is very important to me and I think everyone can benefit from it and grow, just as i did.
