Technology as Mother by Tiondra - November 2025 Scholarship Essay
As a single mother working two jobs, I don’t have the time or flexibility to sit in a traditional classroom. Between raising three boys, managing work, and handling daily responsibilities, my schedule is packed from morning to night. Being able to take online classes has truly made it possible for me to continue my education and stay on track with my goals.
I started a few years ago earning my associate degree in criminal justice, and from the beginning, online classes made everything more manageable. I liked that I could work at my own pace and do my assignments whenever I had free time sometimes late at night after the kids went to bed or early in the morning before work. It allowed me to balance being a mom, an employee, and a student all at once.
Now, I’m almost finished with my bachelor’s degree, and honestly, I don’t think I could have done it without technology. My life is busier than ever with football practices, games, and taking care of my boys, but having access to my classes online keeps me going. I can log in anywhere whether that be from home, on my phone, during my lunch break or even on the field while my kids are practicing I’m connected to my education.
Online learning has also helped me grow more independent and disciplined. It’s taught me how to manage my time, stay organized, and push through even when I’m tired. I’ve also met other students in similar situations who motivate me through class discussions and group projects. It’s nice to feel supported by people who understand the same struggles.
Technology has completely changed what education looks like for me. Without it, I wouldn’t be this close to finishing my degree or setting a better example for my kids. It’s given me the chance to move forward on my own terms and that’s something I’m truly grateful for.
