Good Habits Pay Off by Tanner - February 2026 Scholarship Essay

Good habits can make or break your academic success. Without good habits, you can really fall behind as a student in the classroom. I have found that including small habits and routines in my life have helped me be successful in class and is one of the reasons why I make good grades. One of these habits is time management. This includes getting a good amount of sleep, setting time aside to study, and making sure to get assignments in before the deadline. Another important habit for me is organization. Keeping a calendar allows me to keep track of when assignments are due, write down times of practice and games for any sports that I play, and other important events going on at my school. These two habits have helped shape me into the student that I am today and have allowed me to stay ahead of the curve and never fall behind in class.

Time management is a very important skill for academic success. Without time management, it can be very easy to fall behind and lose track of things in the classroom. I have always made it a priority to manage my time as much as possible during the school year so that I never get behind. Good sleep is one of my most important habits that fall under time management. Without sleep, it is hard to function at my best. My brain needs rest to operate, and if I do not get enough sleep, then I am already putting myself at a disadvantage in class. Setting time aside to study is also important. Fully grasping the material in class is key to getting ahead. If I do not set time aside for studying, then I will fall behind. I find that setting aside a set amount of time for studying helps keep me on track and allows me to optimize my learning. Turning in assignments before they are due is also important. Having my assignments turned in before the due date can be beneficial in so many ways. Turning assignments in on time has helped me academically. It allows me to not have to stress about turning assignments in late and can help me stay on track and not fall behind. In all, time management is a very import habit that has helped my academic success and is very important in many different ways.

Organization can make or break success in the classroom as well. It has been one of the things that has helped me the most. I have found that using something as simple as a calendar can drastically increase my academic focus. Using a calendar has helped me stay on top of due dates for assignments. This is a major help because it is a quick and easy way to see if I have an assignment coming up, and if so how much focus I should put into it depending on its due date. Not only can a calendar be useful for school, it can also be a useful tool for extracurricular activities as well. Writing down due dates of soccer practices and matches really helped me stay on top of my game for the soccer season. It allowed me to organize my time around the events so that I could optimize my time between sports and studying. Something as simple as a calendar helped keep my life organized and controlled. It allowed me to not fall behind and stay ahead of the game which are all important for academic success. Organization is one the most important habits that I use academically and it as allowed me to be a great student.

Good habits can make or break academic success. The two greatest habits that helped me were organization and time management. Without these habits, I would not have had the same academic success as I did during high school and would have surely fallen behind. Having good habits in high school is an important skill to develop as it can make or break your academic career.
