The thorough analysis of arts in comparison to colonialism and post-colonialism when once observed for simply just a glance seemed very complicated and complex to me at first. Figuring out how the postcolonial idealisms aligned or did not align with the colonial era proved to be a daunting task for me when it came to analyzing the message they brought forth and what they really conveyed to the people during the time they were created. Upon closer analysis and closer inspection of their intricate details in my AP U.S history class I realized that everything in detail mattered, not simply just the pictures and arts themselves, but the time periods in which they were painted, the era they were painted in, the political stability and instability of the time periods they were created in mattered as well. When I took all of those into consideration I realized that the pictures were providing a deeper message, one that could’ve been ignored if the audience simply glanced for only a second. The moment I understood that the paint strokes weren’t the only message, but the era, the time period, the political situations occurring, and the way people reacted to the art mattered, I began to further understand arts of the colonial era when compared to post-colonial era art, or any arts created in different time periods. Closer analysis for something so challenging allowed me to understand the things that were on tests and allowed me to pass my AP exam and earn college credit, not only so, closer inspection allowed me to not only pay attention to details of arts but other aspects of education as well, like the scientific method.
