Everything Happens For A Reason by Rebekah - October 2025 Scholarship Essay
The idea that everything happens for a reason is very comforting to me. It gives purpose to every event in my life, whether it be good or bad. I believe that both positive and negative experiences could be beneficial. Sometimes it can be hard for me to understand why a certain event has happened in my life, but this belief helps get me through any tough situation I encounter. By trusting that there is a reason behind every twist and turn of my life, it will keep me confident that every moment is a stepping stone in my journey.
My favorite book series is “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins. I developed my passion for reading from it, and it has helped shape me into who I am today. Katniss Everdeen first introduced the belief that everything happens for a reason to me. Each event in Katniss’s life leads to significant outcomes that shape her destiny and the fate of Panem. For example, her decision to volunteer in the place of her sister sets off a chain of events that puts Katniss in the position to be the face of rebellion. Every challenge she faces in and out of the arena makes her stronger, because if there is no struggle in life, then there is no chance to get stronger. The Hunger Games demonstrates how even the most terrible experiences have a reason and purpose.
Katniss taught me how to be strong when facing struggles and to have faith that it will all work out in the end. If she can survive the Hunger Games twice, her district being destroyed, and the person she loves being tortured and still end up with a peaceful life, then I know everything that I go through will work out and have a purpose. Ultimately, everything in life is designed to shape and form me into who I am today. Some events may seem unjustifiable, but Katniss helps me keep in mind that everything will work out because it happens for a reason.
