Managing Timing by Paul - May 2026 Scholarship Essay

A challenge I once found intimidating was managing my time effectively. I often felt overwhelmed by the number of tasks I had, even when they were actually manageable. This made it difficult for me to stay focused and complete my work on time. I would sometimes avoid starting tasks because I assumed they would take too long or be too difficult.
To help me improve, my father encouraged me to write down every task I needed to complete. Along with each task, I included either a due date or an estimate of how long it would take. At first, I would show him my lists so he could guide me, but over time I began creating them on my own. I started using this method for both schoolwork and personal projects, organizing everything on a day-by-day basis.
This change made a significant difference in how I approached my responsibilities. Writing my tasks down allowed me to clearly see what needed to be done, which made the workload feel more manageable. I was able to prioritize my responsibilities, spread them out over time, and stay on track. Instead of feeling stressed and overwhelmed, I felt more in control of my schedule.
As a result, I began completing my work more efficiently and even found myself with extra free time. More importantly, I developed a habit that I can continue using in the future. What once felt intimidating is now something I handle with confidence, and I know I can apply this skill to more challenging responsibilities ahead.
