A year of Purpose: Exploring Passions and Public Health by Nahomi - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

One of my biggest aspirations for the upcoming school year is to get involved by joining new organizations, staying active on my campuses, and diving into subjects that genuinely interest and excite me—especially those involving public health.

One of my long-term career goals is to become a Healthcare Administrator, I have always been an organized person and planned everything ahead of time. I believe that this career would be the perfect fit for me, due to the qualities that I believe align well with the responsibilities of this profession . I would love to have a stable job position in a Hospital and ensure that everything runs smoothly, efficiently and ensure that everyone has high-quality patient care. I want to be someone who helps improve patient care not by providing it directly, but by creating an environment where healthcare professionals can do their jobs effectively.

To help me achieve this, I decided to major in Health B.S. at the University of Houston, I did my research and found people say that UH offers strong academic resources and a good program. The University of Houston will help me reach those goals. I am especially focused on gaining hands-on experience through hospital internships, where I can see the daily responsibilities of healthcare administrations, understand their challenges, and start building valuable connections within the industry. My education here will not only give me the knowledge and training but it will also shape me into a confident prepared professional. I hope to use what I learn to make meaningful changes in healthcare systems, ensuring that care is not only accessible but also efficient and compassionate.

The people who motivate me to achieve this dream are my family. “Echale ganas mija”, or “Give it a try daughter”, These are the words my parents have engraved in me my whole life, persistently emphasizing that success is earned through hard work. As a Mexican American daughter whose parents came to this country to ensure the safety of my future, I have always taken that seriously. As a first-generation college student, I am determined to change this for myself and my family. I know how much they have done for me and I want to make them proud by earning a degree.

Despite my passion to achieve this, the financial burden of tuition, books and living expenses still feels overwhelming. Everything my parents have done for me has shaped who I am today, and they continue to inspire me every day. I know this scholarship would not just help me financially- it would be the key to making my dream a reality. It would allow me to continue on with my education without the constant worry of how to afford it. With your support, I will be one step closer to achieving the future I’ve always envisioned and making my family proud.

I am certain that the University of Houston will give me the suitable resources and will give me the necessary set of connections to greatly succeed. I am ready to take that next step, and with your help, I know I can succeed.
