I used to think that making a mistake on an assignment meant I had fallen short. That perspective changed when my professor gave me an opportunity that I did not expect. I was given the chance to redo a laboratory assignment after receiving feedback. At first, I saw the opportunity as a way to improve my grade. However, as I worked through the assignment a second time, I realized that the experience was offering me something more valuable than a better result. It offered me the opportunity to become a better learner.

I carefully reviewed my professor’s comments and identified where my approach had fallen short. Instead of focusing only on correcting the mistakes, I took the time to understand why they occurred and how I could avoid making similar errors in the future. When I completed the assignment a second time, I was more intentional about following the procedures, analyzing my results, and explaining my reasoning. The experience showed me that feedback is not simply a judgment of my performance; it is a valuable tool for growth.

This experience changed the way I approach challenges in my coursework. I have become more comfortable asking questions, reviewing my work critically, and using constructive criticism to strengthen my understanding. As a chemistry student, I know that mistakes are often an important part of the learning process, particularly in the laboratory. What matters is being willing to recognize those mistakes, learn from them, and adjust.

The opportunity to redo the laboratory assignment taught me that growth requires humility and persistence. I learned that receiving feedback does not mean I have failed; it means I have been given information that can help me become better.
