Motivations Of Doubt by Micaela - August 2026 Scholarship Essay

One time I had to learn from feedback was during cheerleading when my coach told me that I needed to improve my strength. At first, I was a little disappointed because I wanted to feel like I was already strong enough. However, instead of taking the feedback negatively, I decided to use it as motivation to improve myself even outside of cheer.

My coach’s feedback helped me realize that strength is an important part of cheerleading. I needed strength to perform skills safely, hold positions, and keep up with my team. I began putting more effort into building my strength through workouts, conditioning, and practicing skills. Even when exercises were difficult, I reminded myself that the goal was to become stronger and better at cheer.

Over time, I started noticing a difference. Challenging exercises became easier, and I felt more confident during practices. I realized that the feedback I received was not meant to discourage me. It gave me something specific to work on and helped me see an area where I could grow.

This experience changed the way I respond to feedback. Instead of seeing criticism as something negative, I now try to see it as an opportunity to improve. Cheer taught me that becoming stronger does not happen immediately. It takes consistency, patience, and dedication. I learned to use feedback as motivation and to keep working even when progress is slow.

The feedback I received about my strengths helped me become a stronger cheerleader and a more determined person. It taught me that weaknesses can become strengths when you are willing to put in the effort. Now, when someone gives me feedback, I try to listen, learn from it, and use it to become better.
