Small Habits That Have Shaped Me by Mia - February 2026 Scholarship Essay

Throughout highschool, staying organized was my biggest flaw. Juggling school work, sports, and extracurricular activities, was a challenge to maintain without any sort of organization. One small habit that has made a big difference in my academic and personal success is setting aside a few minutes at the end of each day to plan for the next one. Although it may seem simple, this routine helps me stay organized, reduces stress, and allows me to approach each day with a clear sense of direction. By writing down my assignments, upcoming tests, activities, and personal responsibilities, I avoid the last minute panic that often comes from forgetting important tasks.
This habit has improved my academic performance because it encourages better time management. When I know exactly what needs to be done, I can prioritize my work and break larger assignments into smaller, more manageable steps. Instead of procrastinating, I am more likely to start early and give my best effort. As a result, the quality of my work has improved, and I feel more confident walking into class knowing that I am prepared.
Beyond academics, daily planning has strengthened my personal success by teaching me discipline and responsibility. It reminds me that success is often built on consistency rather than big, one-time efforts. Even on busy days, taking a moment to organize my thoughts helps me stay focused and balanced. Over time, this routine has become second nature, showing me that small actions, when repeated regularly, can lead to meaningful growth.
In the end, success does not always come from dramatic changes but from steady habits that keep us moving forward. My daily planning routine proves that something as small as a few minutes of preparation can create lasting positive results in both school and life.
