Family by Mi - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

Through thick and thin, family is always there for me in order to lift me up. Although it may not apply to all, family is the most important engine in my life. Aspirations that I want to achieve this upcoming school year is to be able to manage my time efficiently, and at the same time be able to complete my work just so I could be able to make my parents proud of me.

To begin with, most college students tend to be burnt out from college the first semester due their mindset thinking that college is like high school. In high school, students are tracked down when assignments are missing, and their workload is not as heavy in college so it causes them to be able to have more freedom. Transitioning to college, it will definitely be more difficult to be able to manage time, and if I don't manage to be able to do it, then it would probably cause burnout. Additionally, I want to be able to stay on top of my works, and make sure that I am completing everything making sure that I pass every assignment. I have this mindset because I have always had this mindset of always wanting to have only A's or B's. Ultimately, I want to be able to manage my time efficiently, and at the same time be passing my classes.

Furthermore, being a first-generation college student, there is a lot of pressure because of the expectations held by parents. To me, this pressure is turned into some sort of motivation because my family was always there for me whenever I was desperate. Coming from a third world country, I realized as I got older that I should really appreciate what is given to me and what I have. My parents sacrificed everything just for me to be able to come here and have a better education for a better future. My parents always highlighted why it was important to finish school, and to get a good job. My parents are my driving motivation, and the engine that will always keep me going. From a refugee camp they came to the US not knowing anything, having no money at all, and having no one to rely they raised me up from such a struggling background that I want to be able to pay them back tenfold, but I know that it is not enough to pay back. Ultimately, family has always been the driving motivation for me when it came to school, and I just want to prove to my parents that their sacrifices were not in vain.

In conclusion, family is one of the most important values in our live, and we should use it to motivate us. We should also be prepared and ready to face any challenges that comes our way.
