Work-Life Balance Wonders by Megan - May 2026 Scholarship Essay

In my senior year of high school, I was struggling to manage my schoolwork on top of my dual credit course and my job. I went to two co-ops my last year and would work an average of 25-27 hours each week. On top of that, I also attended a dual credit course at TCC, so I had work in that class as well. I would often work closing shifts at work so I wouldn’t get home until almost eleven. My parents were really supportive with everything I did, however, if I were to change one thing, I’d likely drop the dual credits to save my time. Regardless, the load of work taught me better time management skills which I still apply today. Balancing all of those responsibilities forced me to become more disciplined and organized in my daily life. I learned how to prioritize assignments, plan ahead for deadlines, and make the most of the limited free time I had each week. Although it was stressful at times, the experience helped prepare me for the expectations and independence that come with college.
Looking back, I am proud that I stayed committed through such a demanding schedule. The experience showed me that perseverance and responsibility are just as important as academic success, and it gave me confidence in my ability to handle challenges.
