My Freshman Year Aspirations by Mckenzie - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

The first day of school has been replaying in my head constantly. “What will class be like? What do I want to accomplish first?” I’ve always believed in writing down my aspirations and the order in which I want to achieve them. As an incoming freshman, that reflection felt more important than ever. So, here are mine.
First, I want to take on a leadership role in my school’s theatre program. As a freshman new to campus, this would be a major accomplishment. I want to achieve great things during my time here, and making my presence known early matters to me for networking, community involvement, and future opportunities. Theater helped me come out of my shell in high school, and now I want to help others feel confident too.
Second, staying true to myself. Whether it’s in my friendships, my creative work, or the choices I make, I want to stay grounded. College is known for pressuring people to change in order to fit in. I want to show up as the raw person I am and leave the same way, with a little more growth and wisdom. God is my biggest motivation. Staying in my Bible and respecting myself no matter what will keep me focused, even when people try to steer me wrong.
Lastly, I plan to expand my hair business in this new city. Being a business owner isn’t always easy, but with the right mindset and confidence, it won’t be the hardest thing either. I plan to promote Hair Addict ATL all over campus and gain new clients. I’m aiming to become the go-to campus hairstylist and hopefully work backstage at the school’s fashion shows. My mom is my biggest motivation. Watching her grind for what she wants inspires me daily. She always says, “A dream without work is dead,” and that keeps me going.
