One academic subject that really challenged me was college algebra. I’ve never considered math to be my strongest subject, so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Once the semester started, I realized it was more difficult than I expected. Some of the equations and concepts just didn’t click for me right away, and there were times when I felt frustrated because everyone else seemed to understand it faster than I did.
Instead of letting that discourage me, I decided to put in more time. I started practicing problems outside of class, watching videos that explained the material in different ways, and asking questions whenever I didn’t understand something. Little by little, things started to make more sense. I realized that I wasn’t going to get every problem right on the first try, and that was okay. Each mistake helped me figure out what I needed to work on.
By the end of the course, I had learned more than just algebra. I learned how to slow down, think through problems step by step, and not give up when something seemed difficult. Those skills have helped me in other classes and in everyday situations where I have to think carefully before making a decision.
Looking back, college algebra taught me that struggling with something doesn’t mean you can’t succeed. Sometimes it just means you need to be patient with yourself and keep trying. That class gave me more confidence in my ability to solve problems, and it reminded me that growth often comes from working through challenges instead of avoiding them
