How Technology Has Positively Impacted My Classroom Experience by Maria Azucena - November 2025 Scholarship Essay
In recent years, many people have argued that technology has a negative impact on the classroom. However, I believe the opposite is true. When used thoughtfully, technology can make learning more engaging, efficient, and effective. In my experience, it has opened up countless opportunities to learn, create, and connect with others in meaningful ways.
For example, in my psychology class, technology has completely changed how I approach research. Instead of relying only on textbooks, I can easily access online academic journals, articles, and databases that provide up-to-date information. This has helped me strengthen my essays and deepen my understanding of psychological concepts. Having access to credible sources online allows me to compare studies, analyze data, and support my arguments with real evidence. It makes learning feel active rather than passive.
Technology has also made presentations much more dynamic. In the same psychology class, we often have to present our projects to the class. Using digital tools like PowerPoint, Google Slides, and video clips makes our presentations more creative and engaging. It helps us explain complex topics more clearly through visuals and multimedia examples. Learning to use these tools has also given me practical skills that will be valuable in college and future careers.
Another major advantage of technology in the classroom is how it allows for flexibility. For instance, we also have online discussions as part of our class. This is especially helpful for me because I work a full-time job from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and attend school early in the morning from 8:00 to 9:00. After class, I often have to rush to work and don’t always have time to participate right away. However, thanks to online platforms, I can log in later in the day to take part in discussions, share my thoughts, and respond to classmates. Without this technology, it would be much harder for me to stay engaged and complete my coursework on time.
Overall, technology has made my classroom experience richer and more rewarding. Rather than being a distraction, it has become a tool for discovery, creativity, and connection. It helps students like me manage busy schedules while still being active learners. When used responsibly, technology doesn’t take away from learning — it enhances it.
