Reaching out to students struggling academically by Madesyn - December 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I were to run for student body president, my first change I would advocate for is the formation of a support group for students struggling academically. In this way, as a student myself I understand being unwilling to give up free time before or after school for studying, as well as high achieving students taking free time out of their day to tutor others. I think an effective system would be a tutoring system and or support group that takes place during lunch every day, giving student tutors community service hours, therefore not only do students getting tutored benefit from this system, but the tutors get a boost for college applications and potential future job applications. By observing my community throughout my 3 years in high school, I have observed struggling peers that have no option of improvement rather than dropping a class. With a new support system and way for students who are struggling academically to learn and form relationships to students who excel, it gives these struggling students an alternative to building future habits of giving up when work life or struggles get hard, but an outlet to seek improvement and become a well-rounded person who strives for achievement and pushes through overwhelming times.
