Never Judge a Book by its Cover by Lizbeth - October 2025 Scholarship Essay
In a recent romance book I read which became one of my favorites, the main guy character, named Vuk,had been a rich, scary guy, who was a well known figure in the business world. This guy was known to never speak to anyone unless he had to, and he communicated to others by writing it out or sign language. It wasn't that this guy didn't talk, he believed the less he spoke, the better.
Now, Vuk's childhood had been very tough. He had been a twin, in which he and his brother had been very poor because their mother and father had left them. Both of them were intelligent, so they managed to survive for a long time. When they were teens, the main guy decided to start getting an education, but the brother got in the wrong hands and he joined a dangerous gang, in which the gang also wanted Vuk to join since he was very smart. Vuk decided to join for his brother and it was going all good until the gang wanted Vuk to do more for them, but Vuk decided to leave the gang(which nobody could because then they would get caught). One evening, Vuk and his brother were in their apartment and the gang had surrounded them inside and tied them down. Once they were both tied down, the gang decided to light the house on fire and evaded the scene. Vuk and his brother had been caught in the house and Vuk could let himself out, but the brother was still caught. Vuk had tried to save his brother but his brother told him to go or he was going to burn too. Vuk had to make the hard decision of leaving but his face had been partly burnt from the fire.
Since then many people assumed he was a mean and scary guy who disliked talking. But in reality he had once been a teen who tried to save his brother, and since he couldn't he decided to talk as least as he could because his voice reminded him of his twin brother who had died. I say don't judge a book by its cover, because many would see him as an intimidating guy who had really just been wanting to succeed in life, not wanting to be the little poor I'd he had been once.
