Exploring My Passion by Lilly - October 2026 Scholarship Essay
Ever since I was a little girl, my subjects around me and the activities I participated in always leaned towards the medical field. I joined a first responders course, and took certifications, believing the medical field was my future career path. Although I enjoyed taking those courses, mathematics courses were always so fascinating and fun to me. I always adored the logicalic thinking of mathematics and the practical implementation aspects, but I never knew a career pathway that included both of those characteristics.
At the end of junior year I had heard about Science Olympiad, and that’s when my idea of my career pathways changed. Coming back to campus as a senior, I signed up for the club right away. Because I was excited to further learn about STEM majors that included mathematics with hands-on creations. With the main help from the Science Olympiad club and other organizations, I was able to find a career with those characteristics. Which was mechanical engineering.
I am as of now in the blueprint and planning phase for three crucial events in the Science Olympiad club, bound to mechanical engineering concepts. Brainstorming my Boomilever foundation means it’s necessary for me to evaluate weight distribution, durability, and tensile stress. Drafting up an electric car forces me to assess energy transformation, wheel tracking, and velocity reduction, while forensics polishes my systematic review. Even though I haven't participated in these upcoming events, undertaking them, conducting research about them, and outlining ideas, ultimately bridges the gap between equations and execution
