What is a small habit or routine that has made a big difference in your academic or personal success? by Lenrose Chloe - February 2026 Scholarship Essay
One small habit that has made a meaningful difference in my academic and personal success is taking just ten minutes each evening to plan the next day. It’s a simple routine, but it has helped me stay focused, organized, and much less overwhelmed. Instead of waking up unsure of what I need to do, I start each morning with a clear sense of direction.
During those ten minutes, I write down the top tasks I need to complete and look ahead at any upcoming assignments or responsibilities. This helps me prioritize what really matters instead of wasting time trying to figure out where to begin. It also prevents procrastination because large projects feel more manageable when I divide them into small steps. Knowing exactly what I want to accomplish keeps me motivated and makes it easier to use my time wisely.
This habit has also improved my personal life. Planning ahead allows me to balance schoolwork with free time, so I can fit in hobbies, rest, or time with friends and family without feeling guilty or stressed. Instead of feeling like I’m constantly catching up, I end the day feeling more in control and confident.
Even though it takes only a few minutes, this routine has had a big impact on my productivity and overall, well‑being. It has taught me that small, consistent habits can lead to significant improvements over time. Planning my day each night is a simple habit, but it has become one of the most helpful tools for my success.
