Strength more than muscles a lesson from Rangers Apprentice by Legal: Ethan Preferred: Noel - October 2025 Scholarship Essay
I believe one of the most important lessons I have learned in my life is from a character from John Flanagan’s Rangers Apprentice. The lesson I have learned from him is that strength is more than just the ability to lift heavy things and it can come in many different forms. Will Treaty, the main character is Rangers Apprentice, in not strong at all, he is small and weak. What Will lacks in conventional strength, he makes up with his lightness on his feet and his ability to think quickly. He has shown me that even though I’m not strong I can still have strength in the form of my mind. Since I have figured that out, I have applied my strength to my life, being able to plan, overcome, and get past the many roadblocks I have come acrost in my life. One of those roadblocks is my severe depression, I have been able to plan ahead by doing my work in classes and getting ahead so when everything hits me at once I don’t have to get stressed about schoolwork. Just planning is not enough sometimes which is when I have to overcome my depression and get stuff done when its difficult. Another one of my strengths is my will power. It might seem like a simple thing but putting it into practice is much harder than expected, but I have to use it everyday just to do simple things like getting out of bed. This strength of mine to just be able to push through the proverbial clouds and do things through sheer will is also a huge strength I have. This is what Will Treaty has taught me, that true strength isn’t always seen in muscles, it’s found in your mind, your heart, and so much more.
