The Active Recall Study Strategy has helped me feel more confident in my ability to retain information for content that I am studying. Each year since my freshman year in high school, I have taken AP level social studies courses such as AP Human Geography, AP World History, AP US History, and I’m currently enrolled in AP Government. All of these courses have been very heavy on content, vocabulary, dates, and application of concepts. The Active Recall Study Strategy has helped me to not only pass in class tests, but I’ve passed my AP exams in these courses with fours and fives. First, I make sure that I understand what’s being tested and read the material. From there, I quiz myself on based on what I expect to know for the test. Based on how I did, I make flashcards related to the concepts that I didn’t remember as well. Once my flashcards are made, I use them to quiz myself over and over again until I feel comfortable. Once I’m fully confident on the test material, I like to teach my dog, or an inanimate object on everything that I have studied. I believe that teaching someone a subject is one of the best ways to study and learn. Therefore, I use that method to reinforce the material that I have learned and memorized to build confidence and verify the effectiveness of my study sessions.
