PSU by Lauren - August 2025 Scholarship Essay
As a sophomore at Penn State studying Security and Risk Analysis, I’m proud to be a first-generation college student. This means I’m not just working hard for myself, I’m breaking new ground for my family and showing them what’s possible. This upcoming school year, I have big goals, and I’m motivated every day to make them happen.
Academically, I want to push myself even further. Security and Risk Analysis isn’t an easy major, but it’s one I’m passionate about because I know how important it is to keep people and organizations safe. I’m determined to get involved in research and internships that will give me real-world experience and prepare me for my future career. Each assignment, exam, and project is a step toward proving to myself and my family that I can succeed at the highest level.
My motivation also comes from the community I’m part of here at Penn State. Being in Delta Zeta sorority has taught me a lot about leadership and sisterhood. We support each other to be our best selves academically and personally, and I plan to take on more leadership roles this year to make a bigger impact. At the same time, my involvement in the Newman Catholic Student Ministry helps me stay grounded. My faith and the friendships I’ve built there inspire me to stay focused and intense, even when things get tough.
Ultimately, what drives me is the chance to pave the way for others who come after me. I want to be a role model for younger family members and other first-generation students, showing them that with hard work and dedication, they can achieve their dreams too. Winning this scholarship would not only help me financially but would also be a huge encouragement that my hard work is paying off.
This school year is about growth in my studies, my leadership, and my impact on the Penn State community. I’m ready to take on every challenge and opportunity with determination, and I know I’ll come out stronger on the other side.
