Academic Topic by Kymani - July 2026 Scholarship Essay

Describe an academic topic that challenged you at first but ultimately strengthened your critical thinking skills.

The class that I took in high school that was really hard at first was Critical Thinking Skills. I took that class in my sophomore year in high school. It was about analyzing and recognizing our thoughts. Also, about evaluating and problem solving and making good decisions. I am good at analyzing things however I had a hard time coming to some conclusions and solving the problems in a timely manner. We had to complete assignments and write essays to show evidence for solving the issues. Solving real problems in real life while using logical reasoning.

This class strengthened me because it challenged me to make great decisions -- it allowed me to value having integrity and understanding. It opened my eyes to the outcome of things and made me realize that having good critical thinking skills is important. I will now be attending college, and this class will help me with making great decisions, solve problems logically, writing better papers and communicating in an effective and positive way.

These skills will be used in my college years and as I grow older -- I will implement them more and more in my life. I will also be playing football in college and the critical thinking skills will allow me to lead my teammates whenever I can. In my everyday life -- my critical thinking skills will help me evaluate the information that I learned and apply it well especially under pressure.
