What if technology didn't affect us positively ?-The reverse effect by kiahara - November 2025 Scholarship Essay

Did the normalization of young kids using the internet start in the classroom? A brief discussion on the effects technology being in the classroom has had on our youth. Drip Drip Drip, I hear as I walk into my childhood best friend's bathroom. As I walk in I see her hysterical with blood dripping from her arm. We were 8 years old. When her mother walked into the bathroom from the commotion she had to explain to 8 year old me why my best friend had been cutting herself and what it even meant to cut yourself. Something I would have never had to experience without cyberbullying. My best friend was being bullied by a group of older girls on an app called ¨Musical.ly¨. This app was a fun app where you would just post silly videos of you lips syncing or doing dances, you'd never expect your child to start harming herself from an app like this. This was my first experience with cyberbullying but it wouldn't be my last. Cyber bullying as i've aged has been something that's spread even more. Every year you can expect to have at least 1 cyber bullying situation if you have even a small online presence. The effect of cyberbullying is extremely harmful and there needs to be more regulations to protect children. Now what does this have to do with technology in the classroom? The girls who were bullying her got her information from tech we ´ d use in the classroom. Once they found that her life was changed forever. Without the use of constant screens in the classroom maybe she wouldn't have had to experience this. Another side of it was she had the ability to constantly check her screens even during school seeing these hurtful comments everyday all day.
