Feedback by Kennedy - August 2026 Scholarship Essay

As I think about a time when I received feedback, I feel as if it has made me a better person. Although, at the time it felt very uncomfortable. I later realized that I needed that feedback in order to grow on the job. When I was working part-time at a grocery store, the store manager would tell me that I needed to walk back and forth instead of standing in one particular spot when on self check-out duty. In my mind, where I was standing I could see everything from one angle. I could see the customers and the cash register monitors. As I began to do this, I was able to learn how the systems work and was able to help fix errors more quickly. I was also able to help the customers faster as well. It helped me to gain leadership skills because I knew the whole front area. I was able to guide and help other employees. It also helped me to show the manager that I was attentive to my job and that I could handle more than one duty at a time. It also helped me to engage more with the customers and I felt a sense of being appreciated. It also showed that I was flexible and could adjust easily when needed. I am now a stronger worker and it has helped me to prepare myself for any future jobs or career!
