Surviving Senior Year to Start My Journey in Education by Kenley - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

Growing up with two educators as parents, I have always had a deep appreciation for learning. I watched how my parents changed students’ lives, and I realized early on that teaching is not just about passing along knowledge. Teaching is so much more. Teaching helps others grow. I spent time in their classrooms, tutoring, helping out with activities, making bulleting boards, or just offering support to whoever needed it. Those experiences showed me that teaching is about encouraging and inspiring others.

Looking ahead, I see teaching as being all about helping each student. Every person has their own strengths, needs, and passions, and with the help of technology, education can be more personalized and fun. Teachers will not just be lecturing. Teachers guide students, help them stay curious, and push them through challenges. The goal is to make school a place where everyone can succeed, no matter their background.

To me, education is about more than just textbooks and cute classroom tools. It is about creating a space where students feel safe and supported, emotionally, socially, and creatively. I want to be the kind of teacher who helps students find their confidence and prepares them for life beyond the classroom.

From my time in marching band, Spanish Club, and Student Council, I have learned how important it is to build an environment where students feel motivated and empowered. I have seen that teaching is not just about facts—it is about boosting confidence and helping people reach their potential.

I want to be a teacher who embraces change, promotes inclusivity, and uses leadership and communication to connect with students. I believe education is a powerful tool for change, and I am excited to be part of shaping the future of education.
