Leading through inclusion and community by Kaitlyn - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I were running for student body president, the number one way I would hope to positively impact my school would be by strengthening the sense of community and belonging among all students. I believe that when students feel included, supported, and seen, they are more confident in the classroom, more willing to get involved, and more likely to enjoy their time at school. My main goal would be to help create an environment where every student feels like they matter.

One of the first ways I would work toward this goal is by increasing opportunities for students from different grades, backgrounds, and interests to connect. This could include themed spirit weeks, student-led lunch activities, and peer mentorship programs that help new or struggling students feel welcomed. By giving everyone a chance to participate in something they enjoy, we build stronger relationships and a more positive school culture.

I would also work to make student voices heard more clearly. Many students have great ideas about how to improve our school, but they may not always feel comfortable speaking up. I would create simple, regular ways for students to share feedback, such as anonymous suggestion boxes, short surveys, or open forums, so everyone has a chance to contribute. When students know their opinions matter, they feel more connected and invested in their school.

Finally, I would aim to lead by example through kindness, responsibility, and respect. A positive school culture starts with the actions of individuals, and I would work hard to show what inclusive leadership looks like.

Overall, my goal as student body president would be to make our school a place where every student feels supported, valued, and proud to belong.
