My Vision as Student Body President by Kaisha - December 2025 Scholarship Essay

If I were running for student body president, the main thing I would want to change is how students feel at school. I want people to feel supported, welcomed, and like they actually belong here. School can be stressful, and a lot of us are carrying things nobody else sees. I want our campus to feel like a place where you don’t have to hide what you’re going through, because you know there are people ready to help.

The first thing I would work on is giving students a real voice. Sometimes you have ideas or problems, but you don’t know who to talk to or you feel like nobody is listening anyway. I would start a Student Voice Forum every month where anyone can show up, speak honestly, and help create real changes. Not just talk — but action. I want students to feel like their words matter.

I also want to bring in more emotional support. I’d help build more peer tutoring and mentoring, because sometimes it feels easier talking to another student than a teacher. And I’d bring in pet-therapy events during stressful weeks. Even a few minutes with a calm, friendly dog can help you breathe easier. Little things like that can turn someone’s whole day around.

Even though I’m not a nursing major, I see how much nursing students struggle. Their program is tough, and they only have one advisor for everybody. That’s not fair to them. I would work with the school to hire more advisors or bring in extra help during busy times. No student should feel alone when trying to plan classes or handle clinical.

I also want to talk about something a lot of students mention but nobody really fixes: the food. Places like Fens, Bartol, and Common Grounds should have food that tastes good and feels fresh. I would work with the school’s budget and dining services to find better options and make sure students are getting food they actually want to eat. Better meals can boost energy, mood, and motivation.

Most of all, I want kindness to be part of our everyday life on campus. Checking in on someone, including people, listening without judgment — those small things matter. As a student body president, I would work to build a school where everyone feels supported and truly seen.
