The Importance of saving our environment by Johnathan - September 2025 Scholarship Essay
Everyday, approximately one trillion species rely on earth for survival and their basic everyday needs. Ever since the Industrial Revolution, earth's global temperatures have risen approximately 2.5 degrees. This is mainly due to increased human activities such as releasing Greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere and cutting down mature trees that store that carbon. As the world warms up, many animals and wildlife feel the effects such as the increased intensity of wildfires, droughts, flooding, sea level rise, etc. I want to become an Environmental Engineer to help reverse these effects, clean up air and water pollution, and help clean up governmental sites that are dangerous to the humans and wildlife that live around them. I plan to do this by collaborating with teams since I'm good with teamwork, designing technologies that can help with environmental issues, and creating graphs as well as using those technologies in missions to help mitigate impacts. I know how stressful it is for people to evacuate their hometowns and coastal communities and I want to help mitigate those impacts by helping to design climate resiliant structures that make these evacuations less common and for people's mental health to get better long term. I love the United States and I know that our country is most vulnerable from monsoons, tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and even more intense hurricanes, especially in our state of North Carolina where these hurricanes are becoming devastating in places such as the outer banks. I wish you good luck with the scholarship process. Thank you for reading this essay. I hope you have a blessed rest of your day! -Johnathan Jhakry
