Everyone deserves inclusion by Jarette - December 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I were to run for student body president and get elected I would begin by making changes so that everyone is included in activities and everyone gets an equal chance at becoming something and gaining opportunities. By this I mean that I would make sure students know about different opportunities that can be presented by the community that can actually allow students to gain experience in fields where they may want to pursue. For example, ever since I could remember I wanted to become an extremely successful lawyer. However there were so many roadblocks in my way that I did not realize, one being my age. Being a lawyer takes a lot of dedication, work, and ethic. Due to that standard not every law firm and not every lawyer is going to want a teenager who has yet to have experience in law work on managing paper work for cases that can be crucial in the career of a lawyer. What now? Now, many say to do more research, or to cold email lawyers because you never know what may happen, but in my experience it always ends with “Sorry we don’t take high school level students to intern” or the “We do not do that here.” I tried for over two months and I had no luck. That was until a executive intern came in to talk to my AVID class about a legislative internship that could help us network, communicate, meet new people, and really gain experience which overall was what we were all looking for. Experience. Without it you really were not guaranteed anything due to the fact that no professional wants to have to be babysitting while doing their job. This opportunity was amazing for me however I only found this out beginning of my junior year. This was something that I could have been doing since my freshman year but I lacked knowledge. This is why this would be my top priority as a student body president. I would want every student to be able to have access and have the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the fields that they want to pursue. Not only will this allow for the gain of experience, but it will also allow you to process whether you actually want to continue in that career path for the rest of your life after graduating high school. I would make sure to do thurow research to make sure that there is equal opportunities for each field and that no one feels like they cannot try something that they love. To me this is a important because yes school and gaining those high grades is important but so is learning what works for you and really what will allow you to live a good life when you reach that point in your life where you have to be independent and work for everything in your life. Life is more than just an A+ and the sooner students can realize this and start investing in their future the sooner they will gain the real life experience that every young adult needs.
