If you could give one piece of advice to your past self, what would it be and why? by Jamel - July 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I could give one piece of advice to my past self, it would be to not care as much about things. There are many reasons why I chose this particular one to tell myself. The first would have to be when you stop overcaring about things and let it take its natural course, you feel better. If you remain calm about everything, you would barely be stressed. This advice would also work from a relationship perspective. My past self constantly cared way too much in a relationship, which caused me to lose myself in the process. Hence, I would want my past self to care a lot less in relationships and to put herself first. In a way, I'm saying be a bit selfish. Caring a lot less, it would be another version of putting yourself first in a world where everybody is constantly putting themselves first as well. As a person with a big heart and an even bigger one in the past, not caring is hard. It's even moments now where I want to be the person to step up and give my all for the sake of others. So I have to think to myself, in which way will this affect me mentally and emotionally? Depending on the answer depends on how I chose to proceed. I would want my past self to use the same process of elimination method that I do as well.
