What study strategy or learning method has had the greatest impact on your academic success, and why? by JAMAR - September 2026 Scholarship Essay

Studying consistently and dividing my work into smaller, more manageable chunks are the study techniques that have had the biggest influence on my academic achievement. I've learnt to arrange my tasks, create priorities, and give myself enough time to comprehend the content rather than attempting to finish everything at once. I've become less anxious, more responsible, and more assured of my academic success thanks to this tactic.

One reason this strategy has been so effective is that it helps me avoid procrastination. When I have several assignments or exams coming up, it can be overwhelming to think about everything at the same time. Breaking my workload into smaller tasks makes it easier to focus on one thing at a time. For example, I may spend one day reviewing notes, another day working on an assignment, and another day preparing for an upcoming exam. By doing this, I am able to stay organized and make steady progress instead of rushing at the last minute.

Repeatedly reviewing material is another crucial component of my learning strategy. I've discovered that reading something only once doesn't guaranty that I comprehend or recall it. I can retain the material longer by going over my notes again, practicing questions, and going over key ideas. When I don't grasp something, I take more time to consider it from a new angle or seek assistance. Because of this, I feel more at ease acknowledging when I need to improve and taking the appropriate action.

Consistency has also been important to my academic success because I have learned how to balance school with my other responsibilities. As a college student and student-athlete, managing my time is important. I have to balance classes, assignments, studying, practices, workouts, and other responsibilities. Having a consistent study routine helps me make time for school while still giving attention to the other important parts of my life.

Most significantly, this tactic has shown me that being the smartest student in the classroom is not necessarily necessary for academic achievement. It involves having self-control, being well-organized, and being prepared to work hard. There have been instances when a lesson or project was challenging, but I was able to overcome such difficulties by breaking the task down and keeping working on it.

Overall, breaking my schoolwork into smaller sections, reviewing material consistently, and managing my time effectively has had the greatest impact on my academic success. This method has helped me improve not only my grades but also my discipline and confidence as a student. I believe these habits will continue to help me succeed throughout college and in my future career.
