Building My Future, Honoring My Legacy: Both my birth family and my forever family by Jack - August 2025 Scholarship Essay
I am excited to continue my dual credit college courses from Arizona State, focusing on finishing college algebra which has been my toughest class so far. This achievement will build the math foundation I need before starting engineering and digital design classes this Fall. The Varsity Tutors Scholarship would help cover tuition for these courses, supporting my educational journey.
My motivation comes from my family, especially my grandfather, who worked over 30 years as a defense technician. Though he never attended college, his dedication and pride in his work inspired me to work hard and focus on my education. Spending time in his workshop sparked my interest in how things work. When he passed away recently, I promised to honor his legacy by making the most of my opportunities, especially in STEM.
I was adopted as a newborn, and my birth mom chose my family because she wanted me to have a better life. Growing up in a supportive home has allowed me to explore my passions — from making homemade electric play dough circuits with my mom to playing electric guitar and loving classic cars. These experiences deepen my interest in blending creativity and technology.
I enjoy hands-on learning. Through electrician camps from the Rosendin Foundation, I learned CAD, conduit bending, and built a lamp, gaining insight into how engineers and technicians bring projects like hospitals and data centers to life. This experience confirmed my goal to become an electrical engineer who combines innovation with practical skills to power future businesses.
I know succeeding in STEM requires focus and determination, and this year I plan to give my best effort in all my classes and activities. Winning this scholarship would not only ease financial burdens but also motivate me. I want to honor my grandfather's legacy, give back to my community, and help make the world a better place through engineering.
Thank you for considering my application.
