Fighting Against AI by Isaac - May 2026 Scholarship Essay

In this era of new and intimidating technologies unfolding right before our very eyes at greater rates than ever before, it is clear to me how these could be of great benefit to our society as a whole. With that being said, however, something I can't bring myself to ever condone is the rapid and extreme implementation of artificial intelligence, or AI, especially in writing. I believe AI has chewed up the art of literature and spat it out to mold it into something grotesque, irksome, and most of all, fraudulent.

I have been impassioned about reading and writing for many years, so witnessing the hindrance of authenticity in my dream career field lately has brought me great despair, to say the least. It has become increasingly difficult to latch on to hope for humanity when my fellow peers instantly turn to ChatGPT and other forms of AI to write their essays, short responses, or even a mere six words on assignments that don't even take half an hour to complete. However, it would be incredibly foolish of me to simply give in to my hopelessness and not even attempt to manage this barrier.

Ever since my initial spark of inspiration in literature, I have worked tirelessly to get where I am today in terms of my writing abilities. I don't plan on stopping anytime either; the frightful attacks AI has made so far have only provoked me to work even harder to keep the authenticity of it alive. I have taken every opportunity to move my career forward and I will continue doing so while also using my writing voice to be even more outspoken than I was before towards the harmful effects that artificial intelligence has had on people like me, who want nothing more but to succeed in this career.

Aside from taking AP English courses and being an active staff member in my school's newspaper, my biggest demonstration of my literary talents has to be when I won first place in a slam poetry competition, where I competed against every other eleventh grader at my high school. Additionally, I placed top two in a PTSA-sponsored schoolwide art contest for my submission in literature, further showcasing not only my dedication but my actual ability to write. Alongside schoolwide contests, I have also submitted my original works to contests sponsored by my county, including one to be the 2025-26 teen poet laureate. I have even taken my dedication further and connected with a screenwriter from Netflix to expand my network and also to receive valuable advice on achieving my goals, which includes overcoming the AI epidemic that is currently infiltrating the literary world.

I am positive that not many people would go this far to manifest their dreams into reality, but I certainly will because I will not allow any obstacle, especially one that is artificially created, to get in my way.
