In the next few years, I intend to master the skill of balancing passionate advocacy with legal acumen—the ability to remain an objective, neutral vessel for the law. This requires the intellectual discipline of following the “letter of the law,” regardless of whether one agrees with the outcome of a case. Judicial restraint is the maintenance of justice, specifically the commitment to impartiality and strictly adhering to the law. This is essential to ensure the justice system remains predictable and objective. Two fail-safe traits prevent arbitrary rulings: integrity and patience. Patience prevents rushing to an interpretive conclusion, while moral courage must be upheld consistently even in the face of public or political pressure. Together, these qualities establish a fair and legally secure case.

My personal experience with the law as a sexual assault survivor at fourteen taught me that justice isn’t just a feeling, but a discipline I must learn to wield. To grow, I joined a mock trial and learned how to speak in front of a crowd and stand in a courtroom with confidence. In that environment, I wasn’t the victim; I was the advocate defending young girls like me. Through therapy, psychiatrists, and self-help groups, I learned CBT and grounding skills. I finally understood that the past does not define me; I cannot change what happened, but I can take that experience and learn from it.

I am currently enrolled in pre-law courses as a criminal justice major. In addition, I am seeking internships with federal prosecutors to observe judicial restraint in person, and I will continue competing on debate teams to practice impartiality under pressure. Over the next few years, I hope to use my time in college to grow and learn even more.

I will never stop fighting for my dreams. I know that justice is not just handed out; it is fought for. I am writing my own story, and I will be a federal criminal prosecutor. It is not just a dream anymore; it is a choice and a destiny. One day, I am going to fight for others to get justice just like I did at the age of fourteen. I will stand in courtrooms and make sure nobody else is silenced. Mastering these skills over the coming years ensures that my voice is used as a tool for the law rather than just a personal story. A society is only free and fair if these skills are disciplined. The law is like a shield—it only works if those who practice it stay behind it.
